On the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, the month of Adar, the edict commanded by the king was to be carried out. On this day the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, but now the tables were turned and the Jews got the upper hand over those who hated them.
- Esther 9:1
For what hope have the godless when they are cut off, when God takes away their life?
- Job 17:8
Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
- Psalm 43:5
“‘When she saw her hope unfulfilled, her expectation gone, she took another of her cubs and made him a strong lion.
- Ezekiel 19:5
Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.
- Hebrews 11:1
This quiz is about the word “hope”. I hope you got the hint in the Scriptures above.
I remember getting on an airplane in South Bend, Indiana and we were flying to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After the plane was pushed back and we started taxiing toward the runway, the pilot got on the intercom and welcomed us on the flight to Tampa, Florida. I cannot remember what town he really said, but it was far from Pittsburgh. Half the passengers laughed. The other half got up to leave, although there was no longer a ramp to assist in that. The pilot then laughed, told them to sit back down, and we’d be to Pittsburgh in a little over an hour. I doubt if the pilot would still have his job these days. People have lost their sense of humor, and sadly many never had hope.
But with that in mind, I might start a quiz with the same Scriptures above and then say that the quiz is all about “sacrifices.” Hmmm. Sacrifices might be a tough quiz! And I might get every question from Leviticus! Okay, almost every question. Hold that thought …
How was I inspired this week? I was hoping that I would think of a topic for this week’s quiz, so …
The questions are in biblical order.

Maybe part of what inspired this quiz was that during my son’s cleanup efforts after the memorial service for my wife, he found a “miracle” of sorts. My wife was famous for placing the CD into the case for the next CD that she wanted to listen to. Nothing was ever in its own case, but then my son found one. It was a signed copy, with a note of hope to her, from david m. bailey. Sorry, he never capitalized his name. He was a 14-year survivor of a Glioblastoma brain tumor. He spent those years travelling the world, talking about Jesus, and spreading Hope. I think this CD that my son found was the one he signed for my wife just before he died, about 3-4 months before. Expect to hear some of his music later.
He enjoyed coming to our church. His father retired as a missionary in Lebanon and lived about an hour north of us.

When you have a memorial service for a loved one, there are a lot of tears, but some of those tears should be tears of Joy, that is if you know they loved Jesus.
Our Hope in this world is found in Jesus. We may suffer, but Jesus is there to see us through that suffering. We can even have Joy in the midst of great suffering.
And our ultimate Hope is in the next life. Just think of it, Jesus is there to wipe away our tears, but then there is no crying, no pain, no sin, no death. And we spend eternity with Jesus.

Whether you did well on this quiz or, ummm, not so well, … Here is david m. bailey singing One More Day.
And here is The Message of Hope.
And here is Share Hope.
And here is It’s Ok.
And here is david m. bailey singing Live Forever. In his introduction, he talks about getting the news of his prognosis – not a good one, probably six months. And he talks about how he dusted off his guitar. But in his last concert at our church, the tumor had returned. He did something he had never done before. He removed his hippie do rag, and we saw his scars. And who knows, my wife is probably at his next concert right now, requesting the last song below.
And here is my wife’s favorite david m. bailey song, Java Junkie.
david m. bailey is drinking coffee with the angels. He is living forever. Hope lives on in Jesus. But, Hope does not live forever. What, not forever? No, when we are with Jesus forever, our Hope is fulfilled in Him in a flood of Joy, Love, and Rejoicing.
