Baal-Hanan the Gederite was in charge of the olive and sycamore-fig trees in the western foothills.
Joash was in charge of the supplies of olive oil.
- 1 Chronicles 27:28
“Moreover, we will bring to the storerooms of the house of our God, to the priests, the first of our ground meal, of our grain offerings, of the fruit of all our trees and of our new wine and olive oil. And we will bring a tithe of our crops to the Levites, for it is the Levites who collect the tithes in all the towns where we work.
- Nehemiah 10:37
All the trees of the forest will know that I the Lord bring down the tall tree and make the low tree grow tall. I dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish. “‘I the Lord have spoken, and I will do it.’”
- Ezekiel 17:24
Say to the southern forest: ‘Hear the word of the Lord. This is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am about to set fire to you, and it will consume all your trees, both green and dry. The blazing flame will not be quenched, and every face from south to north will be scorched by it.
- Ezekiel 20:47
“I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth’s sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.”
- Joyce Kilmer, Trees
A little over a year and a half ago, a neighbor moved into a house with beautiful trees and I wrote about Tree Hugging.
Recently the green tree to the right in the photo was torn down after the new neighbor swore to never cut a tree down.
Did the tree surgeon tell him the tree was a hazard? Was it going to fall on his house in a high wind? Were the roots interfering with the sewer from the house?
If the surgeon said any of those things, was a second opinion requested?
Odd, we rarely question the authority and knowledge of a tree surgeon, but we pay him to assess the hazard and then we pay him again, a lot more the second time, to take down the offending tree.
Beware of someone who gives you advice, who also makes a profit when you say “yes.”
Soli Deo Gloria. Only to God be the Glory.
