The family heads of the clan of Gilead son of Makir, the son of Manasseh, who were from the clans of the descendants of Joseph, came and spoke before Moses and the leaders, the heads of the Israelite families.

David and his men settled in Gath with Achish. Each man had his family with him, and David had his two wives: Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail of Carmel, the widow of Nabal.

This is a mystery message quiz.  The first letter of each answer forms letters in the “message.”  There is not much of a message, but the message is a special family bond in the Bible between two people.

The desertion of the answer to question 4 above caused Paul to not trust him, but Barnabas, being a relative took the answer to question 4 with him to check on the churches on the island of Cyprus.  Barnabas had sold property there to help the church in Jerusalem, so there must have still been family ties.  Paul later finds much utility in this person, requesting him because of the great help he became.

The book of Ruth may indeed talk about a strong family bond, but it also speaks of the kinsman redeemer.  The act Boaz plays in this book is a parallel with what Jesus does with each of us, redeeming us for God’s service and making us children of God.

There is great depth in this book.  It is a good book to study the faithfulness people can have toward one another when a devotion to God is a part of the equation.  And while some people call it a love story, you have that as well, but just focusing on the love diminishes what is happening in these four chapters.

I wonder if Ruth ever got to meet her mother-in-law, the answer to question 9.
