Now let my lord the king listen to his servant’s words. If the Lord has incited you against me, then may he accept an offering. If, however, people have done it, may they be cursed before the Lord! They have driven me today from my share in the Lord’s inheritance and have said, ‘Go, serve other gods.’
- 1 Samuel 26:19
Nathan reported to David all the words of this entire revelation.
- 2 Samuel 7:17
Your words have supported those who stumbled; you have strengthened faltering knees.
- Job 4:4
Who has helped you utter these words? And whose spirit spoke from your mouth?
- Job 26:4
So Job opens his mouth with empty talk; without knowledge he multiplies words.”
- Job 35:16
So the Lord spoke kind and comforting words to the angel who talked with me.
- Zechariah 1:13
I was thinking that it had been some time since I did a “fill in the blank” quiz. This time, I am doing it a little differently. There are only two words in this quiz that are missing in the verses that are quoted. It should be fairly easy. If you know, and can logically determine, the word in one verse for each, you have solved the mystery of what the two words are. Then by logic, you can plug those words into the other verses to make that statement make sense.
The questions are a quoted verse in the NIV with one word missing.
I think I may write this type of quiz more often to highlight words in Scripture that carry important concepts, some concept to follow, other concepts to avoid.
The questions are in biblical order, and do not be surprised if two answers in a row are the same. Each answer is used five times.
The Questions:
| Question | Bible References | Answers | |
| 1 | You, however, will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a ____ old age. | ||
| 2 | “Do not be angry, my lord,” Aaron answered. “You know how prone these people are to ____. | ||
| 3 | Sovereign Lord, you are God! Your covenant is trustworthy, and you have promised these ____ things to your servant. | ||
| 4 | He did ____ in the eyes of the Lord, following the ways of his father and committing the same sin his father had caused Israel to commit. | ||
| 5 | Then they said to each other, “What we’re doing is not right. This is a day of ____ news and we are keeping it to ourselves. If we wait until daylight, punishment will overtake us. Let’s go at once and report this to the royal palace.” | ||
| 6 | He did ____ because he had not set his heart on seeking the Lord. | ||
| 7 | But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow ____, there will be wrath and anger. | ||
| 8 | Those people are zealous to win you over, but for no ____. What they want is to alienate you from us, so that you may have zeal for them. | ||
| 9 | We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the ____ one. | ||
| 10 | Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy ____ health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. |
In these verses, we have the assessment of the reign of a couple of kings.
We have a covenant being made and an idol that was made.
We have a siege that is over.
And a king takes stock of his reign.
One of these words is used 610 times in the NIV and the other word is used 430 times. Oddly, the two words are used roughly the same amount in the Old Testament, only about ten percent more for the more popular word, while the more popular word is used over twice as often in the New Testament.
And there are 55 verses in the NIV where the words appear in the same verse.

These two words are portrayed in some lore as being equals. A choice between them is necessary, but while one might seem what we want at the moment, the other is more powerful.
One brings comfort to the soul and others are helped. The other can provide riches, but you will always have to look over your shoulder.
God is in favor of the one and He wishes that we show the one to others in our deeds, but He will cast the other into the lake of fire.

The very different words that make up the answers to this quiz are good and evil. The secular world has flipped the narrative. They call good evil and evil good. Isaiah prophesied this would happen. “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter” (Isaiah 5:20). Is this a sign that the End Times could be approaching? It is not too late, we could repent.
Whether you did well on this quiz or, ummm, not so well, for the first video, here is Huly Ray Asidor of the Asidors singing He’ll Find a Way.
But what if you are torn between something that seems okay, but it is not God’s way. Here is Anne Wilson singing Stand.
Here is the West Coast Choir from West Coast Baptist College singing I Speak Jesus.
And why not end with a song referring to Good Friday? Here are the Petersens singing Near the Cross
The world wants us to think that good is evil and evil good, but God’s ways are everlasting ways. Those that cling to the good build strongholds against the evil around them, and their good works help the poor, the widows, and the orphans.
May you seek God today. May you do good for God’s glory today.
