I was thinking that it had been some time since I did a “match” quiz. A verb is missing from each Bible verse. The verses do not necessarily rank among some people’s favorite memory verses, but since the answers are given, verb tense might help, and context should definitely help. Some sentences will simply not sound right with the wrong answer applied.
The questions are a quoted verse in the NIV with one word missing. The verbs are listed after the questions.
The questions are in biblical order. The answers are listed in alphabetical order. None of the answers are capitalized, although two of the answers are the first word in a sentence.
The Questions:
| Question | Bible References | Answers | |
| 1 | “____ the tabernacle with ten curtains of finely twisted linen and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, with cherubim woven into them by a skilled worker. | ||
| 2 | They built the altar of burnt offering of acacia wood, three cubits high; it ____ square, five cubits long and five cubits wide. | ||
| 3 | The Lord ____ to Moses, | ||
| 4 | In the first month the whole Israelite community arrived at the Desert of Zin, and they ____ at Kadesh. There Miriam died and was buried. | ||
| 5 | with these orders: “____ carefully. You are to set an ambush behind the city. Don’t go very far from it. All of you be on the alert. | ||
| 6 | The Gileadites ____ the fords of the Jordan leading to Ephraim, and whenever a survivor of Ephraim said, “Let me cross over,” the men of Gilead asked him, “Are you an Ephraimite?” If he replied, “No,” | ||
| 7 | Now Boaz, with whose women you have worked, is a relative of ours. Tonight he will be ____ barley on the threshing floor. | ||
| 8 | The people all said to Samuel, “Pray to the Lord your God for your servants so that we will not die, for we have added to all our other sins the evil of ____ for a king.” | ||
| 9 | When the Israelites in the camp heard that Zimri had ____ against the king and murdered him, they proclaimed Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that very day there in the camp. | ||
| 10 | I asked the angel who ____ with me, “What are these, my lord?” |
| asking, captured, listen, make, plotted, said, stayed, talked, was, winnowing |
I could have made this quiz considerably harder, finding verses with similar verb tense or verbs that are synonyms of each other. I sort of took verses at random. I was a bit whimsical with my verse selections at the beginning.
God gives us many commands. He tells us to GO. He wants us to reach out to other people and we cannot do that if we stay in one spot. He tells us to DO. We are to help the poor. Care for the widows and orphans. Feed His sheep. He tells us to LOVE. He tells us to love our neighbor. He tells us to love one another. He tells us to love our enemies.
A verb is an action word. Waiting, sleeping, and snoring are verbs, but God wants us to take action. We cannot spread the Good News that Jesus loves us if we sit and wait and nap when the one who needs the message may be quite near.

The first four verses in the Scriptures at the beginning were selected Scriptures from relatively random chapters in the Bible. The first four verses in the questions were the first verse of the next chapter after the first four quoted verses at the top. Then of the next four verses that are quoted, the fourth verse of those chapters was selected in three of them. There are only three verses in Psalm 134.
Like I said earlier, I was being a bit whimsical.
But maybe each of us should think of all the verbs that God uses. What does God want me to DO today? Who does God want me to BE today? Where does God want me to GO today?
And if you stay home for the day, spend time to THANK God for all the blessings He bestows, PRAISE God for being the awesome God that He is, and GLORIFY God, the God of the Universe, the Creator of all things, and the Master of all He surveys.

Whether you did well on this quiz or, ummm, not so well, for the first video, here is the Wissmann Family singing Good Christian Men, Rejoice.
Here is the Fountainview Academy singing Stand Up, Stand Up for Jesus.
Here is Sounds Like Reign singing Pass Me Not, O Gentle Savior.
Here is the Master’s Seminary Chorus, Grace Community Church, Sun Valley, California singing Soldiers of Christ, Arise
And me being whimsical a bit more. The hymns all have verbs in the title. Yes, let us rejoice, stand up for Jesus and arise. And Lord, please do not pass me by.

Soli Deo Gloria. Only to God be the Glory.
I love math. I decided to do the math with a friend who lives in another state, and found how many miles it was between me and her. Then did the math and converted that distance into cubits. Bible fun for everyone! It was A LOT of cubits!
