I Forgot What This is about Quiz

Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them fade from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them.

  • Deuteronomy 4:9

Be careful not to forget the covenant of the Lord your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the Lord your God has forbidden.

  • Deuteronomy 4:23

“But they forgot the Lord their God; so he sold them into the hand of Sisera, the commander of the army of Hazor, and into the hands of the Philistines and the king of Moab, who fought against them.

  • 1 Samuel 12:9

and disclose to you the secrets of wisdom, for true wisdom has two sides. Know this: God has even forgotten some of your sin.

  • Job 11:6

“Take up a harp, walk through the city, you forgotten prostitute; play the harp well, sing many a song, so that you will be remembered.”

  • Isaiah 23:16

My son forgets to call me.  Well, that is what he says.  He has some neurological issues.  He is taking therapy to sort that out, but in the meantime, while some people have selective hearing, he has selective memory.  Maybe I deserve his memory loss, but when he needs something …

Yep, that’s when he has no problem remembering how to call my number.

My point is that I am getting to the point where I might fall.  The house has a lot of stairs, unnecessary stairs.  Maybe the person who remodeled the house was thinking that people who needed exercise would live here.  I need exercise, but I get wobbly on the stairs, at least on occasion.  I do not want to fall, and no one check on me for a week or two.  You know.  The old commercial that became a joke in my youth – “I’ve fallen, and I can’t get up.”  When you get to that particular age, it is not a joke anymore.

But this quiz is about “forget” or “forgot.”  Frankly, I cannot remember which.  There are enough Bible verses for either one…

This is going to be a matching quiz.  Ten Bible verses, probably not verses that you would memorize, but then, if you did, you might forget them…

Editor’s Note: The author better quit making references to forgetfulness, or I will do something to him.  Something…  I forgot what that something is.  Not sure what that something is, but he won’t like it.

Okay, getting serious.  Since these may not be your favorite verses, I will give the answers.  The questions will be in biblical order and the answers in alphabetical order.  Basically, a fill in the blank with the question for each Bible verse, “What was forgotten?”

The Answers:

all my trouble, her appointed festivals and her Sabbaths, long ago by God’s word, the Lord their God, the needy, the wickedness committed by your ancestors, this word of encouragement, to be merciful, to bring bread, what you did to him

I think we all have selective memory.  Have you ever forgotten an anniversary, birthday, big family dinner at Mom’s request?  But have you gotten angry when a close relative or friend forgot those precise things when you were expecting them?

It comes down to what is important to us.

In thinking of that, have you forgotten to say your prayers in the morning or in the evening?  Maybe you forgot the say the blessing before a meal.  Have you forgotten to go to church?  When I was getting burned out, working on the ruling body of the church, I forgot two meetings in a row.  I think my mind and body were helping me forget those meetings.  What could take one hour to review and decide took 4-5 hours and half the decisions were sent back to committee for more information or we were arguing over things that the committee (or team) should have decided on their own.  Do you care if the light fixtures have one big light bulb or two small ones?  I definitely do not, but that was three hours of my life wasted to NEVER decide this “massive” and terribly “important” decision.

Yes, we have all been there, especially when you leave the door or window open in your heart to help others.  Maybe forgetting something is God’s way of saying “Good and faithful servant, you need to slow down.”

But we should make all effort to do the things that we promise to do.  Remember what Jesus says about oaths.  Better not make them, but if you do, you must follow through – and forgetting is not an acceptable excuse.

The George Burns joke about getting old is something that I have told before.  Maybe more than once.  I … forget.  But here it is again.

There are three stages in a man getting old.

The first stage is that you forget to zip up.

The second stage is that you forget to zip down.

The third stage is that you simply forget.

The first stage can happen to anyone, but it is embarrassing.  When the second stage hits you, it is not funny, and it is extremely embarrassing.  But the third stage?  He never says another word about that.  I could imagine.  And while under a doctor’s care, I think I experienced that too.  It was not fun.

So, when you get past stage one, for all you men out there, assuming we have all had a stage one moment, remember others have trod along that path before.  You are not alone.

Whether you did well on this quiz or, ummm, not so well, for the first video, here are Brian and Katie Torwalt singing Remember.

Here is the Celestial Singers singing Remember.

Here is Lauren Daigle singing Remember.  If you see a pattern here, it is purely intentional.

Here is Denny Scott singing Remember All the People.  And so we should remember those on the mission fields, in our prayers, in our financial supports, and in our deeds – for the mission extends within our neighborhoods also.

Let us remember that God loves us and He commands us to love one another. And above all else, remember that God never forgets us.
