I had surgery about a month ago.  Nothing to worry about.  This was a preventive procedure to eliminate future infections.  My last infection caused me to miss three days of writing due to the pain.  While everything healed after the surgery, I had a hard time sitting down.  I would elaborate further, but this might give you an idea of where the surgery was done.

This quiz is about sitting or sitting at or on something.  The questions are in biblical order.  The last four are from the New Testament.

The Questions:

 QuestionBible ReferencesAnswers
1Abraham saw three men approaching.  He referred to one of these men as the Lord, and he bargained with the Lord over how many righteous people are left in Sodom.  Where was Abraham when he saw the men approach?
2Two men of the three in question 1 went on to Sodom.  Where did they find Abraham’s nephew, Lot?
3Ephron the Hittite was sitting among his people when Abraham delivered some sad news.  After a gift was offered by Ephron, Abraham refused, only accepting once he paid for it.  What was the sad event, and what did Abraham purchase?
4Laban was angry when he caught up with Jacob at Mizpah.  He was looking for something.  What was Rachel sitting on?
5When the Lord proclaimed the tenth plague, He made sure that Pharoah knew it would affect the firstborn of him who does what?
6Why did Moses challenge the Gadites and Reubenites?  Would they simply sit where they were or join the others?
7James says that if you let the rich person stand in a place of honor and the poor person sit at your feet you are guilty of what?
8After the letters to the seven churches were dictated by Jesus, John was shown an open door.  He was taken in the Spirit into heaven where he saw someone sitting on what?
9An angel came from the temple and called for someone like the son of man, with a gold crown on his head, and holding a sickle.  He was to use the sickle to reap the harvest.  Where was this son of man sitting?
10One of the seven angels shows John the great prostitute.  She is introduced as being someone who sits by many waters, but when she is first seen, she is sitting on a beast.  What is the color of the beast, the number of heads of the beast, or the number of horns?  Bonus for all three.

Other than having a long time of being unable to sit for very long, I thought of this quiz when I was given a non-medicinal therapy to handle the pain, a Sitz bath.

When I called several people that I had made it through the surgery with no problem, and I had not had to resort to anything medicinal, at least not at that time, they asked how I handled the pain.  I said that one way was with a Sitz bath.  They had never heard of it.

I said, “Well, you have this shallow bowl that fits onto the toilet bowl.  You put warm water in it, and then for about fifteen minutes, you ‘sits’ on it.”

Since I had used a subject verb disagreement, they asked it that was how it got its name.  I told them it was probably named for a person named Sitz, spelled S-I-T-Z, but I couldn’t resist giving the instructions that way.

I may give away the answer to question 9 here, but when I was growing up, everyone pictured heaven as being a peaceful place where everyone sat like the son of man in question 9, playing a harp.

I do not think that to be the case at all, but if it is, we will be given a heart to do our best at playing the harp and we will enjoy it tremendously.  But I seriously doubt this concept.  It eliminates the streets of gold, gates of huge pearls, and all the other stuff.  How can you have a river flowing and trees growing … on the answer to question 9.

But is this myth due to the hubris of mankind?  Who is the one sitting in question 9?  Someone like the son of man.  Is this Jesus, the Son of Man?  Whoever He is, He sweeps his sickle across the earth in one giant motion and the harvest is complete. That is one powerful person.  In having this concept of heaven, are we likening ourselves to Him?

Okay, there are three references to harps in Revelation.  The first is when John sees the 24 elders, and each has a harp.  Are we so cocky that we think ourselves as being one of those elders?  There are those among the 144,000 who have harps.  Can we claim that we are among them?  We are definitely not angels.

So, the people with harps in heaven seem to be among the elite.  In thinking that we will be one of those, we might just be thinking too highly of oneself.  I will simply be happy enough to put my cane down.  I won’t need it anymore.
