Lately, I have been writing a quiz based on research for a different post, at least in a few cases. In yesterday’s Babs and Harold Conversation, Babs was feeling guilty about her past. She even quoted several stories from the book of Genesis that illustrated how no good came from her sin and how that sin could lead to a lot of trouble. Then Harold said that she was remembering things that she should put behind her and forgetting that God had already forgiven her. There was no need to hang onto the guilt. So, I only used a couple of verses to illustrate the “do not feel guilty” concept.
This quiz is about verses that have the word “guilty” in them. There are 82 verses in the NIV to choose from.
The questions are in biblical order. The last three questions are from the New Testament.
The Questions:
| Question | Bible References | Answers | |
| 1 | In the first use of the word “guilty”, a man is told that his daughter-in-law is pregnant and guilty of prostitution. He wants her burned, but then in confronting her, he finds out that he is the father of her child. Who are these two people? | ||
| 2 | According to Exodus 21, if two people have a quarrel and one hits the other with a stone or a fist, and the injured party is given bed rest (but still able to stand using a staff for support). What is the guilty party responsible for? | ||

| 5 | When the tribe of Benjamin was virtually destroyed, only a few hundred men left, the other tribes had sworn to never give their daughters to them in marriage. But when they had an assembly to see how the tribe of Benjamin could survive, what town failed to show up, leaving the assembled tribes to kill all non-virgins in the town, and having four hundred virgins that could be stolen by the Benjamites as their wives? | ||
| 6 | David enters a covenant with someone, stating that if you find him (David) guilty, kill him yourself rather than turning David over to the other person’s father. With whom does David make this covenant? | ||
| 7 | Isaiah declares a woe on those who are heroes at drinking wine. They acquit the guilty and condemn the innocent. But what is their reason to acquit the guilty? | ||
| 8 | What does Jesus say is guilty of an eternal sin? | ||

| 10 | After the riot in Jerusalem over false claims that a Gentile entered the temple, Paul makes his plea three times, eventually demanding to take his case before Caesar. With whom, any of the three, did Paul state he was not guilty of any criminal act? |
Church leaders should be blameless. We should live blameless lives.
But there is a difference in not guilty and blameless. A blameless person is one who is upright and in the world’s view, blameless of anything with which they could be taken to court.
Not guilty means that we did not do it.
Of course, these days there is the plea of not being guilty due to reasons of insanity or there were extenuating circumstances.
I am just looking at our relationship with sin. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, but for those who trust God with everything, God has washed away our sins. In some wording, God has “forgotten” our sins, but I think a better translation is that God has, as He judges us, removed our sin in considering our guilt, thus He knows we have sinned, but He does not hold us to that account. He finds us not guilty.

Do you feel guilty for your sin?
It is quite easy to counter that with, “God has forgiven you. It is quite arrogant of you to think your own feelings are more important than how God sees you.”
The wording might be less harsh than what I just wrote, but I have heard it in more harsh terms.
But if you really love with the heart of Jesus, you will love those that you may have harmed. In some cases, it may be impossible to provide restitution. Zachaeus gave back four-fold, but what of those who had died? Did he give the money to their children?
But in the end, regardless of whether we struggle in making amends or simply freely accept God’s Grace, God knows our heart.
Yet, at some point, we have to avoid self-flagellation, figurative or literal.

Whether you did well on this quiz or, ummm, not so well, for the first video, here are the Newsboys singing Guilty. Do you wish to be found guilty? Guilty of loving God and spreading the Gospel.
Here is Mandisa singing Not Guilty. What happens when the judge looks over the bench and says, “I love you. I find you not guilty.”
Here is Micah Tyler singing Walking Free. The song is good, but the video has true testimonies of those who have been saved by a prison ministry or work with Ground 40, a ministry that helps men transition from homelessness, addiction, and/or incarceration through biblical principles.
Here is Lauren Daigle singing You Say.
For what do you feel guilty? God forgives. Rejoice. For those who are in the Book of Life, He finds us Not Guilty. But if you could listen to these videos without shedding a few tears, you are a stronger person than I.
