This quiz is a fill in the blank quiz, but I will not provide a word list.  If you fill in the blanks for the ten words into the template below, you will be quoting a familiar Bible verse.  Thus, you can work back and forth if you do not know the missing word for some of the verses.  The mystery verse has twelve words in it.  The word “God” appears twice, and I have inserted those words into the template, thus there are ten verses with missing words and ten blanks to fill in. When you are complete, filling in the words in the template below, you will have the eleventh verse.

The verses are in the order that they appear in the mystery verse.  There are four verses from the Old Testament and the mystery verse is from the New Testament.

The Template

____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ ____ God, ____ God ____ ____.

The Questions:

 QuestionBible ReferencesAnswers
1For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that ____ believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
2Love is patient, love is kind. It ____ not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
3The Lord God said, “It is ____ good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
4Jesus replied: “‘____ the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
5Love ____ not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
6And this was his message: “After me comes the one more powerful than I, the straps of whose sandals I am ____ worthy to stoop down and untie.
7He says, “Be still, and ____ that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
8Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, ____ on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
9The Lord ____ my shepherd, I lack nothing.
10“If you ____ me, keep my commands.

This quiz was not as easy as it seemed when I thought of the idea.  It took a lot of prayer just to get the idea of the eleventh verse – meaning the missing words of ten verses quote an eleventh verse.

I went through most of my memory verses.  They were either two short or too long.  Then I decided to give a couple of free words and use a twelve-word verse.  And the internet search engines do not help.  Their idea of a memory verse is half of the verse.

Then the word search engines got confused.  Most of the words, I knew verses for them, but…

But this was enjoyable enough to assemble, I might go for two short verses that add up to ten words the next time.

The last of the Scriptures at the top hints at memorizing Scriptures, but we can store Scriptures in our heart by studying the Bible, memorizing verses, or reading devotionals.  We may not remember the chapter and verse, maybe not even the book, but when we are tempted, the verses can come to mind.

But that means being disciplined in our reading, studying, and praying.  If we do not have a good regimen, then the verses may never come to mind.

My problem in finding the verses is that all my memorization back decades ago was in the KJV.

But in thinking of the verses, if that keeps us from sin, then we are ahead of the game.  Remember that Jesus thwarted Satan’s temptations by quoting Scripture.

I don’t know if I love old hymns because they are old, or I love old hymns because they bring back memories.  Without having the hymnal in front of me, I am not only singing the verses, but I am singing them in tenor.  This last hymn must have been a favorite in the churches where I grew up.  Sometimes, these days with the words totally butchered half the time, I put down the bulletin where the words are printed and sing the words I remember.  Yeah, I am a bit of a renegade.

Rather than making the congregation ignorant of the meaning of the verses, they change stuff.  In the hymn, Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, there is a verse that start “Here I raise my Ebenezer.”  Since no one knows what an Ebenezer is, they have changed the words.  But what is wrong with the music minister teaching the congregation that an Ebenezer is a monument made of stacked rocks.  Bible references can be given to show where Ebenezers were raised.  But no, it is easier to keep the congregation ignorant and use words they would know.
