With Thanksgiving next Thursday in the USA, I am providing a Thanksgiving matching quiz.

I left one word out of each of the following verses that contain the word “thanksgiving.”  The missing words are in a word list.  The verses (questions) are in biblical order and the missing words, in the word list, are in alphabetical order.  These verses may not be common memory verses, but I hope the verses can be figured out by grammatical rules and simply what sounds right.  Half of the verses are in the Old Testament and the other half are in the New Testament.

I wrote a Pink Lady Project story last year on the Eve of Thanksgiving, Preparations for Thanksgiving 2024.  They conducted a dress rehearsal for a Thanksgiving Pageant where Jemima Yeggs, a.k.a. Stinker, teaches the children about how Sarah Josepha Buell Hale wrote letters to one president after another until finally Abraham Lincoln agreed to make a celebration of Thanksgiving in November.  The date moved around, but it finally settled into the celebration we have today.

This year, I think the theme of the Thanksgiving Pageant will be why is it necessary to have such a holiday when we should be giving thanks to God every day.

And that should be our attitude.  We can celebrate with a big meal.  We can eat so much that we fall asleep during the football games that afternoon, but maybe that is due to the quality of the games more than amino acid, tryptophan, that is in turkey meat.

But with all that going on, do all these people who find no reason to thank God the other 364 days each year ever think about thanking Him on Thanksgiving?

I love my turkey and dressing, but when we do not go to God in prayer daily, do you think God is impressed that you eat turkey on Thanksgiving and watch a football game, and forget to thank God that day also?

We need to realize that God is God, and we need to worship Him.

What are you thankful for?

If I am still alive and kicking when this post comes out, I am thankful for that.  I have no known deadly diseases that have been diagnosed, but I had a bout of COVID a couple of months ago that drained my energy down to nearly nothing.

We often do not know how much is given to us by God each day until some of the good health is taken away.

And somehow, in spite of not feeling like sitting at the computer and writing, I am more motivated than ever.  In some ways, the exhaustion counterbalances that motivation, but God will see me through.  He always has, and if I slip up and miss a post here or there, it was not God’s will to have that post uploaded that day.

I do this for His glory, not my own.  He will see me through to the end.
