This Little Piggy Quiz

“Those who consecrate and purify themselves to go into the gardens, following one who is among those who eat the flesh of pigs, rats and other unclean things—they will meet their end together with the one they follow,” declares the Lord.

  • Isaiah 66:17

“Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.

  • Matthew 7:6

A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside.

  • Mark 5:11

I was brainstorming all alone in my room.  Meaning – I was thinking of any kind of an idea to use for a quiz.  As such, I thought of pork and beans.  Well, there are only two references to beans and only 22 references to pig, none for pork.  So, I went with a purely piggy of an idea.

There is a rumor that I thought of this having prepared ham for both Christmas and New Years.  I will not confirm or deny.

These questions deal with the word “pig”.  Some of the questions may not fit my normal format.  The questions are roughly in Biblical order, half from each testament.

10What Gospel tells of one of Jesus’ parables where the son loses his inheritance in riotous living and ends up tending pigs, when he realizes that his father’s servants have it better than he does?

Pigs were an unclean animal.  They are forbidden to be eaten in the Jewish and Muslim religions.  In most cases, they are not even to be touched.

So, the miracle of the Legion of demons where Jesus cast out the demons and the parable of the Prodigal Son, using a pig got people’s attention immediately.  We do not wish to offend anyone these days, and people use that against us, to silence our voice.  Jesus used pigs in these two instances to use people’s “offense” to get their attention.  One illustrates that even the unclean cannot abide demons and the influence of the evil one, yet we succumb to temptation easily.  The other illustrates that when we go down the wrong road, we hit a rock bottom that we never imagined.  Even if we think we got away with it, God knows our heart.  We all sink to the bottom alone and of our own strength, unless we come to God and confess our sins, surrendering to Him.

In playing with an infant’s toes, this rhyme is often said.

Each toe of one foot or the other is wiggled, starting with the big toe.

This little piggy went to market,
This little piggy stayed home,
This little piggy had roast beef,
This little piggy had none,
This little piggy cried “Wee! Wee! Wee!” all the way home.

Whether you did well on this quiz or, ummm, not so well, for the first video, here is DG Bible songs singing The Pig Song.  They say that the man wanted to stay, but Jesus told him to stay.  The man originally wanted to go with Jesus.  This was a heathen land.  They begged Jesus to leave, and faithful Jews would not heard pigs.

Here is Natalie Grant singing Clean

Here is Levi Asher singing Make Me Clean.

We all are broken, and only God can fix what is broken.

But as he says through Isaiah, it takes a humble and contrite heart.  We need to lay our sins at the foot of the cross, and we must pick up God’s will.  But we cannot even do that without God’s help.
