God Plays Fairly

He is the Rock, his works are perfect,
and all his ways are just.
A faithful God who does no wrong,
    upright and just is he.

  • Deuteronomy 32:4

Then Peter began to speak: “I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.

  • Acts 10:34-35

Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
love and faithfulness go before you.

  • Psalm 89:14

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.

  • Micah 6:8

“Whatever game he is playing with his creation, he has kept his own rules and played fair. He can exact nothing from man that he has not exacted from himself. He has himself gone through the whole of human experience, from the trivial irritations of family life and the cramping restrictions of hard work and lack of money to the worst horrors of pain and humiliation, defeat, despair, and death. When he was a man, he played the man. He was born in poverty and died in disgrace and thought it well worthwhile.”

  • Dorothy L. Sayers, Letters to a Diminished Church

God is Holy.  It is not in His character to lie, steal, or act in any way unjustly.

Dorothy L. Sayers even goes to the point of speaking about our suffering.  With the suffering that Jesus endured on earth, we cannot say that God is putting us through something that He did not endure.  She didn’t even mention His forty days in the wilderness.

And God is not cold hearted.  Jesus wept at times.

And rest assured.  God does not change.  The God of the Bible is still the same God that is watching after you today.

Soli Deo Gloria.  Only to God be the Glory.
