If the Lord had not been on our side—
let Israel say—
if the Lord had not been on our side
when people attacked us,
they would have swallowed us alive
when their anger flared against us;
the flood would have engulfed us,
the torrent would have swept over us,
the raging waters
would have swept us away.
- Psalm 124:1-5
On the day that I wrote this morning’s Bible Study on Psalms 124-126, I had already attended a church meeting and then retyped something for the church. As I started to type it, I felt my head being pressed by a vice – typical sinus issues. Maybe we will have a change in the weather soon.
But I had muscle aches also. Brain fog seemed to descend on me.
I took an hour’s nap, accidentally. But with that rest, I felt even worse.
But the work had to be done. I focused on the church work. I then completed the Bible study, having created the structure the night before. But I needed to press on.
The Scripture above talks about hard times, dangerous times. With God on our side, He can see us through.
But there are a couple of things we must do.
We must not give in to the temptation of putting it off for another day. You know, the day when we feel better. That day might not ever happen.
I had an old friend who would say “It doesn’t get any better than this.” He only said that when things seemed to be at their worst. But that is when the miracles happen. When you press on with God at your back, the work gets done.
And before you pat yourself on the back for a job well done, who was it that gave you the strength to press on?
- So we say no to the temptation to take it easy.
- We rest for a little while to recharge the batteries.
- Then we press on.
- We press until the job is finished.
- And we praise God for giving us the strength to do it.
We should give all the praise to the Lord, who gives us strength.
Soli Deo Gloria. Only to God be the Glory.
