It is Finished

The sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up to prepare the way for the kings from the East.  Then I saw three impure spirits that looked like frogs; they came out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast and out of the mouth of the false prophet.  They are demonic spirits that perform signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle on the great day of God Almighty.

“Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.”

Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.

The seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and out of the temple came a loud voice from the throne, saying, “It is done!”  Then there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder and a severe earthquake. No earthquake like it has ever occurred since mankind has been on earth, so tremendous was the quake.  The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath.  Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found.  From the sky huge hailstones, each weighing about a hundred pounds, fell on people. And they cursed God on account of the plague of hail, because the plague was so terrible.

          Revelation 16:12-21

When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

          John 19:30

In yesterday’s post, we looked at the people who did not repent.  They stay true to the beast until the end, cursing God for the monster hailstone storm, only part of the plague associated with the seventh bowl.  By the way, have you noticed a parallel with the plagues of Egypt in the time of Moses?  Sores, water into blood, frogs, hail, and darkness.

If you are interested, these hailstones would be over 16 inches in diameter, possibly 20 inches, if they were solid ice, but most large hailstones are mixtures of smaller hailstones that are stuck together, like a pomegranate.  They aren’t solid, so these stones could be much bigger in diameter.  The largest hailstone on record was found in Vivian, South Dakota.  It measured 8 inches in diameter.  Imagine hailstones the size of a sack holding four or five basketballs.  It wouldn’t stop on the roof of a house.  It would keep going into it reached the earth.  It might make a crater.

For those who must hold fast to natural law, what would happen to the atmosphere if the damage from the first six bowls were to happen?  At a minimum, the natural balance of everything on earth would shift.  The areas of darkness would get cold and even colder, creating the loss of heat necessary to produce giant hail, possibly the only surviving water moisture from the seas turning into blood.

The mountains and islands disappearing could be due to a shift of earth orbit.  Even a partial “supernova” type event could change the mass of the sun, creating a different orbit.  The balance of the magma could shift enough to cause massive seismic shifts, with some tectonic plates shifting beneath others, volcanoes erupting, and volcanic islands exploding.  This would cause islands to disappear and mountains to be made low.

But what do we hear from heaven? “It is done.”

This sounds a lot like Jesus on the cross who announced the end of His ordeal for the payment to save the people who will call Him Lord.  “It is finished.”

In a way, it is the two sides of a single coin.

Jesus paid the penalty for sin so that whoever believes (trusts in totally) in Him will have eternal life.

Yet, if we are saved from something bad, there must be a bad thing.  Some sadly, refuse to repent.

The two sides of the coin?  One side includes those that accept Jesus, the other for those who refuse to repent.  In the scriptures above, God says, “It is finished and it is done.”

Yet, the book of Revelation is not over.  There are 22 chapters.  This only concludes the 16th chapter and the battle at Armageddon hasn’t happened yet.

When that came up in class, I suggested that it was like the big amphitheater outside Pittsburgh.  When the concert is over, the band climbs on the bus and leaves.  It is done.  But the cleaning crew comes in the next day to throw out the trash.

It is harsh thinking of people being “trash,” but they accepted the mark of the beast and after seven bowls of God’s wrath, they responded with curses and a total refusal to repent.  Now, we have a choice while we still are alive, but once God says that enough is enough…

The final battle at Armageddon isn’t for supremacy of earth.  It is simply good versus evil, and God has the upper hand, especially with the King of Kings appearing with His army.

The invitation is the same as yesterday.  Time is running out.  The end of times may start tomorrow or a thousand years from now, but our lives won’t last forever.  God is knocking at the door patiently.  If you invite Him in to be your Lord, this wrath thing will be about other people.
