I Need God!

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.  That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

  • 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

“After supper I had the pleasure of having two wonderful fellows join us.  They were Randall Thompson of Sublette, Kansas, and George Alexander.
Thompson said, ‘I never was so scared in my life while we were in Bataan as when the bullets were flying and zooming over my head.  I started looking for a chaplain, I needed him to comfort me.’
“Alexander told his side of the story.  ‘When the bombs began to fall, I yelled, “Chaplain, where are you?”  I just jumped into my foxhole and prayed.  “I’m here in a foxhole near you,” the chaplain yelled.  “Do you want me to send the Bible over?”  “No, Chaplain, the Bible wouldn’t stop the bullets or steel from the bombs.  What I need now is God.”’”

  • Abie Abraham, Oh, God, Where Are You?

This post concludes my Memorial Day stories from Abie Abraham’s book.  There is so much more.

I have heard of Gideon Bibles in shirt pockets that have stopped bullets before reaching the heart, but George Alexander’s last sentence summarizes what we all need, each and every day.

May we remember those that served their country and died.  But tomorrow, let’s resolve to live extra hard, knowing that our freedom came at a price.

Soli Deo Gloria.  Only to God be the Glory.

  1. That is so good! We just need God! Amen. He is the Strong Tower. He is the Shelter in a storm. He is the Fourth Man in the furnace. We just need God.
