God’s Loud Command

Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.  For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.  According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.  For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.  After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.  Therefore encourage one another with these words.

  • 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

“Have you ever wondered what that command will be?  [in verse 16, bold above]  It will be the inaugural word of heaven.  It will be the first audible message most have heard from God.  It will be the word that closes one age and opens a new one.

“I think I know what the command will be.  I could very well be wrong, but I think the command that puts an end to the pains of the earth and initiates the joys of heaven will be two words: ‘No more.’

“The King of kings will raise his pierced hand and proclaim, ‘No more.’

“The angels will stand, and the Father will speak, ‘No more.’

“Every person who lives and who ever lived will turn toward the sky and hear God announce, ‘No more.’

“No more loneliness.

“No more tears.

”No more death.  No more sadness.  No more crying.  No more pain.”

  • Max Lucado, And the Angels Were Silent

Many think that Jesus is coming soon because of climate change.  Many think that Jesus is returning because of the world upheaval in the political arena.  Many believe that the church is ineffective and thus Jesus will return soon.  Could any of these people be right?

Jesus is coming soon, but not for those reasons.  Sure, the denominational church’s effectiveness has waned, but to say that it is ineffective is a large step.  Jesus said that there will be wars and rumors of wars, but we should not look at that.  Climate change is bad, and it might well be manmade, but it does not align with the troubles detailed in Revelation.  Could one situation cause another to occur?  Sure, but it’s all still a guessing game.

When I say ‘soon’ that could be a long time from now in human terms, but what of the life of the universe?  Only the blink of an eye.

But let’s not worry, as Jesus told us not to do, and let’s be alert and prepared, as Jesus told us to do.

And let’s be prepared with Joy in our heart and a smile on our face.  Regardless of the suffering along the way, look at what Max Lucado says awaits us.  No more loneliness, tears, death, sadness, crying, and pain.  But only if we accept Jesus as our Savior.

Soli Deo Gloria.  Only to God be the Glory.
