A Child of God

What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said:

“I will live with them
    and walk among them,
and I will be their God,
and they will be my people.”

Therefore,

“Come out from them
    and be separate,
says the Lord.
Touch no unclean thing,
    and I will receive you.”

And,

“I will be a Father to you,
and you will be my sons and daughters,
says the Lord Almighty.”

  • 2 Corinthians 6:16-18

“Every good father has a dream for his children. … God’s dream for us: ‘I’ll be a Father to you.’  That’s been his plan since before the foundation of the world.  But there’s more.  Not only does God want us to know His true identity; He also wants us to know our true identity.  If He is our Father, what does that make us?  If we choose to follow His Son, Jesus Christ, it makes us His sons and daughters. This is the greatest joy of all – to know that God is the Father we’ve all been waiting for, and to revel in the privilege of being His sons and daughters.  This is His dream for our lives.”

  • Mark Stibbe, God’s Word for Every Need

In other devotions on this topic, Dr. Stibbe talks about how God is the Father that our earthly father was not; God is a perfect Father.  I wrote yesterday how my father taught me to never cry.  It takes a lot to cause tears to form, but then they usually don’t show up in a crowd.  But our Heavenly Father will first wipe away the tears and then after freeing us of pain, there will be no more tears.

God can be our perfect Father, because He knows us better than we know ourselves.  He knows our every desire, but also what is good, better, and best in our lives.

All that He asks is that we love Him and enjoy Him forever.

The post is short today, but if I wrote any more, I might spoil it.  This is a concept that we should meditate upon.  Let it soak in.  God wants to adopt us.

Soli Deo Gloria.  Only to God be the Glory.

  1. I find myself far too often being that over-eager son that wants what I want and I want it right now, that one that can’t wait and always know better, yet God is a Father rich in mercy. If it was not for His grace and mercy, I do not want to think where I would have been today. It i true, God wants to adopt us, I like that.
