The Lord your God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.
- Zephaniah 3:17
So Jesus called them over to him and began to speak to them in parables: “How can Satan drive out Satan? If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come.
- Mark 3:23-26
Lord, teach me your paths.
Guide me in your truth and teach me,
for you are God my Savior,
and my hope is in you all day long.
Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love,
for they are from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth
and my rebellious ways;
according to your love remember me,
for you, Lord, are good.
Good and upright is the Lord;
therefore he instructs sinners in his ways.
He guides the humble in what is right
and teaches them his way.
All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful
toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.
For the sake of your name, Lord,
forgive my iniquity, though it is great.
Who, then, are those who fear the Lord?
He will instruct them in the ways they should choose.
They will spend their days in prosperity,
and their descendants will inherit the land.
The Lord confides in those who fear him;
he makes his covenant known to them.
My eyes are ever on the Lord,
for only he will release my feet from the snare.
- Psalm 25:4-15
“America was founded by men and women who recognized that the guiding principle and prayer of this nation has been, and will always be, ‘In God We Trust.’ In fact, the nation’s capital is filled with Christian religious symbols that adorn its buildings and monuments as an abiding evidence of the Lord’s role in American heritage. From the halls of Congress to the monuments and nearly every landmark building, biblical and religious quotations and images are reminders of His true place in America’s birthright and history.
“In the House chamber of the U.S. Capitol is the inscription, ‘In God We Trust.’ Above the gallery door stands a marble sculpture of Moses, surrounded by 22 other lawgivers. At the east entrance to the Senate chamber are the words Annuit Coeptis, which is Latin ‘for he has favored our undertakings.’ In the rotunda, there’s an open Bible displaying the words, ‘the New Testament according to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.’ In the Capitol’s chapel is a stained-glass window depicting George Washington in prayer under the inscription ‘This Nation Under God.’ Engraved on the Washington Monument is the Latin phrase Laus Deo, which means ‘Praise be to God.’ And as you enter the Supreme Court courtroom, the two doors have the Ten Commandments engraved on the lower portion of each door.
“During this time when there is a concerted effort to erase the role of Christianity from America’s heritage, pray that national and local leaders recognize His sovereign hand over this nation. Pray also they allow the Holy Spirit to fill their hearts and that the words on those walls become a reality in their lives.”
- Presidential Prayer Team Devotion
In my lifetime and for many of us, we have seen statues that represent confederate soldiers torn down, and with it a history that we are soon to repeat if we do not turn to God. But instead of turning to God, we have seen the Ten Commandments removed from courthouses and other government buildings. We have had people sue other people over displaying a cross where passersby can see it.
In every endeavor, it seems that a portion of our society trolls the situation, trying to figure out how they can twist the narrative and make money off someone else’s misfortune. A local lawyer, in his TV advertisements, talks about ‘your rights being protected,’ but then his tag line talks of not collecting a fee, unless “you make money.” The entire commercial features a soft mumble from the lawyer, but the word “money” is louder and spoken clearly. We could care less about ‘rights,’ but we care about money.
And it seems that the church and Christians are the favorite target. They are less likely to fight back. They have an appearance of being a push over. After all, they are told to love their enemy, and the Enemy knows that. And our true Enemy is Satan.
The structures that are mentioned in the devotion that is quoted above may not be the same after the next renovation. Evil forces, who are already walking the halls, will see to it that the removal of those things mentioned will be done, possibly in the guise of ‘restoration’ while there is no thought of restoring. Far too many are shouting that they want a Socialist state. They are mostly the young, not knowing of the bread lines in the USSR, waiting for hours just to find that the store ran out, and you’ll have to starve for another day. All the young care about is getting their student loans paid.
I had no student loans. I paid for my education with four years of military service. Now, that’s a great idea. Preserving our freedom in two different ways, getting the school expenses paid without losing our freedom to a totalitarian government while defending the constitution and serving the people while in the military.
But the second quote is the troubling one. People focus on Trump’s gruff manner and his sniping at one opponent or another, but the other side is worse. They have never served him as the standing president, because they refuse to admit that he was elected to the office. Instead of finding common ground, they bicker about the extremes. The truth is that there are indeed extremes. One side wants a Socialist totalitarian government, constantly letting the media repeat that the other side are a bunch of idiots (while denigrating anyone who calls anyone a ‘name’, except for themselves, of course) and the other side is trying to maintain and support the constitution and our government as it is, and has continued to be for over 200 years.
Yet, the system established by our forefathers under God can only exist Under God.
Back to the second quote, many think that Abraham Lincoln made it up to argue that our Nation could not stand as long as there was slavery. First, Lincoln quoted Scripture. He did not make it up. And when he came into office, the South was voting on secession, arguing against the lack of freedom for Southern states to make their own cloth or sell the cotton directly to European markets. If they had abolished slavery, the North would have never given up their lucrative money making businesses. It was about money and states rights, not slavery. Lincoln was pleading that we had to come together or the entire nation would collapse. And dark days were ahead after that speech as thousands upon thousands died in the bloody conflict that resulted. The nation survived, but the scars remain more than 150 years later.
Are we headed toward the same end? Did our fight in the Cold War, when I served in the military, come to this? We willingly shift to a big government that doles out worthless cash, with the loss of our freedom? Christians take note. The USSR persecuted Christians. China and North Korea are persecuting Christians today. A Socialist government cannot stand as long as the people worship God. For when people worship God, the Truth is revealed, and there is the fear within the government that a rebellion could be brewing. Thus, the Christians must be oppressed for the good of the State. This isn’t prophecy. Read the truthful history books before these books are removed from the library.
Are we there yet? In many ways, we are. People might miss a few statues. Most people have not been to the Capitol building or the Supreme Court. They would never know what has been removed. Unless you send up a drone, can anyone read the Laus Deo on the Washington Memorial? Is it still there after the recent renovations? Does the average Christian read every law passed by Congress? How do we know what has been changed? What freedoms have been expunged? Even when a watchdog barks about a small rider that was attached to a large bill, too small to notice, we shrug in complacency. That even happens in our church governments when the higher body announces something horribly contrary to Biblical teaching. We think that we can simply ignore it and move on, not realizing that our foundation is crumbling.
Maybe the title of the post should have one small insignificant change, one most might not notice. When Are We No Longer the US? Or are our United States already divided beyond repair?
Let us pray first for repentance and then direction under God. With that, the unity may follow, if it is the Lord’s will.
Soli Deo Gloria. Only to God be the Glory.
