Still Being 2020ed?

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
What do workers gain from their toil?  I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race.  He has made everything beautiful in its time.  He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.  I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live.  That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God.  I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.

NBC’s Joshua Johnson reflects on the toll the year 2020 has taken on our mental health and why it’s best to let down our “20-ton shield” every once in a while.

  • MSNBC headline for an internet video

Okay, this quote was the only thing written for the lead-in to a video.  I did not watch the video, but I learned that our “20-ton shield”, according to Brené Brown is the shield that perfectionism installs, our outer husk that hides any imperfection so that we can pretend to remain perfect.

First, a 20-ton shield is not enough for God.  He already knows we are not perfect, but we can be made perfect with Christ’s blood.

But that is not what I was going to talk about.  It is this whole concept of being 2020ed.

Be honest.  How many people were relieved when New Years Day brought in a new year and it was no longer 2020?  At about 8:00am when I woke up that morning ,,, I check my blood pressure each morning and record it and the time.  So, when I woke up, the new year was already eight hours old, but nothing had changed other than the calendar and the clock ticked a bit.

Was this past year one that you would probably not want repeated?  Probably so, but was there a global revival, a global turning to Jesus and saying that we want God’s plan, for God is our only hope?  I have a feeling that more people said, “Obi Wan, you are our only hope” instead.

But let’s tie the Scripture into this.  You cannot say that the calendar was totally man’s invention.  God created the earth so that it travels around the sun in 365.256 days.  Thus, to keep the seasons straight, we occasionally have a leap year, but not every four years – to account for that 0.006 fraction of a day.  But even then, when the Israelites made their exodus from Egypt, the Jewish calendar was established, a lunar calendar that adds an extra month on occasion to keep the seasons relatively straight.  This is all established in Scripture, including when to celebrate certain festivals.

But the chosen Scripture ties in also, a time to plant and a time to uproot is definitely based on the seasons.  Yet, each second that we live is followed by another second.  Each second was preceded by a different second.  In that regard, changing from one year to another is simply a breath away.  We should celebrate the New Year on our knees instead of boozing and fireworks.  For it is only in God where we can find Hope for a new year.

How many people voted in the USA election as if the candidate could cure anything?  I know.  Most voted against the other candidate – on both sides.  I am not talking about curing the virus, but any of the ills that have dominated the news.  Have you noted that only ills dominate the news?  I would love for the “news” to get a cure, like a truth serum perhaps.  Now that the news has brainwashed enough people into their way of thinking, and they have largely gotten what they wanted by the brainwashing, what will their mantra be now?  It will have to be negative.  That is all they know.  Now that everything is basically what they have preached, maybe this mantra, “The new order is not getting done fast enough because the constitution is still in existence?”  Is that it?  I fear that the puppet master has that as the ultimate goal for the USA.

Yet, how many turned to God in 2020 instead of the world’s ideas?  How many had faith, faith that God loves us and will save us from self-destruction only if we repent as a nation?  That is our only hope in America, and the world.

The reason why it feels like we are still in the 2020 funk is that 2020 was only a few days ago and 2020 was not the problem.  Our focus is on governments, vaccines, and false gods, and not on Jesus.

When 2021 is worse and 2022 is far from better, will we still complain about our elected officials, or will we DO something about it?  What should we do?  Repent.

Soli Deo Gloria.  Only to God be the Glory.
