Can I Ever Enjoy Television Again?

At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue.  There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Greeks believed.  But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the other Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers.

Hmmm.  But those who refused to believe poisoned the minds of others.

I have heard in the podcast of Rev. David Robertson, the Wee Flea, and read in his posts, that the major networks of the world are brainwashing us through the programming on television.  They are pushing the woke agenda in all levels of programming.

I figured that it could not be that bad.  I am intelligent.  I should be able to filter that out.

Then again, I rarely watch television anymore.  I watch a rare sports program, and I have about a half dozen television shows (mostly dramas) that I watch if they are new episodes, and those have been rare lately.  As I used to tell my wife and children, I pay attention the first time so why should I watch the rerun?  I will admit that I saw Blazing Saddles on the big screen five times, mostly dates with the lady who is now my wife, and I caught some of the ‘hidden’ jokes on the latter viewings.  Hey, my wife and I enjoyed the dollar movie nights before we had kids.  Yep, I was a big spender when we were dating.

But within the past eight days, I have seen six dramas, each an hour long.  And the woke agenda was the star of five of the six.  Sure, in each case it was the secondary plotline, but the woke agenda was really the main lesson to be “learned” or brainwashed, and the crime being solved was secondary.  The sixth drama was so tedious, bringing back two old villains who team up together and try to take over a criminal organization (a third ‘criminal’).  My brain hurt as it seemed like a poor plot line for a superhero movie, or an episode of the classic Steven Spielberg cartoon, Pinky and the Brain.  Pinky: What are we going to do tonight, Brain?  Brain (in an Orson Welles impersonation):  The same thing we do every night, Pinky, try to take over the WORLD!

But back to the other five shows with a woke agenda.  Three of them focused on the police being the evil bad guys.  Of those three, one focused on a black officer of the law being against blacks; one focused on a Muslim officer of the law being against Muslims; and the third was a father using his police skills to find his son who was not where he was supposed to be.  If I were a police officer, I would investigate and then arrest the one that the evidence points toward.  Yes, conflicts of interests exist, but they should not sway my interpretation of the evidence.  I think the third one bothered me the most, since I could relate to it.  The son lies to his father.  The son does things his father forbids him to do.  The son spoils the day that the father had planned as a father-son day.  Then the son plays the violating privacy thing when he gets caught, and the son gets away with all violations, because the father is now apologizing, promising to do better, and feeling like the bad dad.  Come on!!!  Now, the son knows how to get away with anything.  In an episode next season, the son will rob a bank and the father will apologize again for being an officer of the law.  Really?!?!  Is that what we have become?

As for the other two, the woke agenda was subtle.  One regular character in the show leaves the show to help people in Afghanistan teach girls, after the previous teacher, a native, was murdered for having done so – the primary plotline.  The murderer was supposedly a friend but agreed with local tradition that women should not be taught math and English.  Sacrificing a comfortable retirement might seem altruistic to the extreme, but this American did not wear the traditional clothing of that area and she was not a native and she had been captured and tortured the last time she was there.  Yet, the show portrayed her as a conquering hero.  Sure, she was trained to defend herself, but I personally think the only way she could survive for a week would be to have a lot of back-up and bodyguards.  She had none of that.

And with that character gone, everyone else on the show had emotional issues during the next episode.  With the death of an occasionally recurring character, they are even more emotionally destitute.  Sorry, spoiler alert.  Then the leader reads a poem about how love conquers all and we have it within us to stand up against the problems in our lives.

NO!  We do not have it within us, unless…  We need Jesus within us.  We might fake it for a while and then the major collapse will happen.  Love does not conquer all things in this life, but God’s Love does conquer all things, either in this life or the next.

Someone who does not have God in their lives would eventually find a breaking point.  And once broken, it would be hard to find something to grasp as you are falling from the precipice.

Yes, I know that Christianity is the latest “Bad Boy.”  I recently purchased Stephen McAlpine’s book Being the Good Bad Guys, but I have not read it yet.  In our woke society, the one voice that gets shouted down or totally silenced is that of the Christian.  A Christian viewpoint could provide reason in each of these five television shows.  A Christian viewpoint could provide Hope in what seems to be a hopeless world.

Yet, the topsy-turvy upside-down world reigned.  Let’s allow the criminal to get away because one of our law enforcement colleagues is having an identity crisis.  Let’s completely destroy the authority of a loving father and let the inmates run the asylum. Because the father is a cop, a good one, but associated with the false impression that all cops are bad cops.  And we can go into a foreign country and force our idea of wokeness upon another nation and they will appreciate our interference and praise us for interfering with their culture and tradition.  And we can ignore God, but still call upon some mystical power within us to make sense of the world.

Yes, our minds are being poisoned.  Even in watching a sports program, the announcers are relating the players in the game to their ethnicity (as if that matters in an athletic competition) or some cause that the coach supports.  Then the commercials often have woke agendas.

I like to watch programs about the weather, but when that gets to climate change, I turn the sound off.  How can you go from reporting the wind speed and wind direction and the temperature and the chance for precipitation and then morph into a political discussion that expresses unproven theories that often make no sense?

We can escape it.  We can turn the television off.  Hey, let’s start a new “woke” agenda ourselves.  We can save the minds of our next generation by turning off the televisions and reading the Bible.  We will use less energy, saving the planet (or so the woke people say) and we avoid the woke brainwashing.

Save the Planet.  Turn off the TV.  Read the Bible.

Then repent and accept Jesus as your Savior.

Soli Deo Gloria.  Only to God be the Glory.

We’ve noticed the same, even on shows which used to retain family values and working together to come to solutions. Ive been devoting my TV time to old shows like Monk and Maddock. I Also admit to watching Blazing Saddles, but anything Mel Brooks is grossly politically incorrect.
