Faith Hope Love Quiz

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.  But the greatest of these is love.

  • 1 Corinthians 13:13

This quiz, with questions referring to Scripture from the NIV, is a fill-in-the-blank quiz.  But it is also a matching quiz, as the words to go in the blanks are also provided.

There will be five Bible verses about each of the three words:  Faith, Hope, and Love.  But there will be a word or a couple of words left out.  Find the correct word among the suggested answers in the Word(s) List.

The Questions:

Faith

  1. “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do ________.”
  2. “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, _______ and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”
  3. “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered.  “Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this _________, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.
  4. “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.  But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a ____ of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
  5. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not _________, so that no one can boast.

Hope

  1. “Why, my soul, are you ________?
        Why so disturbed within me?
    Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
        my Savior and my God.”
  2. “To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this ______, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.”
  3. “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us _____ into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,”
  4. “When _______ comes, the wicked are brought down,
but even in death the righteous seek refuge in God.”
  5. “Be strong and _______,
all you who hope in the Lord.”

Love

  1. “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love _________.
  2. “the Lord gives sight to the blind,
the Lord lifts up those who are
    ________,
        the Lord loves the righteous.”
  3. “Love must ________.  Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.  Be devoted to one another in love.  Honor one another above yourselves.”
  4. “I will heal their waywardness
        and love them ________,
for my anger has turned away from them.”
  5. “Now about your love for one another we do not need _________ to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other.”

Word(s) List

be sincere, bowed down, by works, calamity, downcast, freely, mountain, mystery, new birth, not see, one another, rooted, take heart, to write, wave

I tried to split the Love verses between God’s love and brotherly love.

You will notice that at least one verse does not have the topic word, but the thought is there.

I hope this quiz was fairly easy.  It might have been a monster if it was fill in the blank.  With the word(s) given, it could simply be reading the Bible verses with each answer inserted until something made sense.  With that in mind, I hope some of the combinations are not too horrible.  Funny, I am okay with.  Cringe worthy, okay, maybe once or twice.  But the bad feeling in your gut?  If that happened, I apologize.

I thought of making it harder.  I simply chose verses and within those verses one or two words.  What would make this quiz harder would be to pick words that would be interchangeable and make sense.  Then you would have to know more about the Bible verses.  For this quiz, I went for fun rather than a tough biblical challenge.

And since you did so well, or even if you did not, enjoy three very different musical selections.  The first is Living by Faith with the Gaither Homecoming crowd, solo by Squire Parsons and trio by Charlotte Ritchie, Sheri Easter, and Devon McGlamery.  This provides the Southern Gospel and Hymn style.  Then a beautiful song by Phil Wickham, Living Hope, a Contemporary Christian song.  And for love, I have used this one before, but I love the video.  It’s a loud, up-beat song by Newsboys, Love One Another.  There’s even a bit of comedy after the song is over.
