Passing the Quiz with “E’s”

Aaron married Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

  • Exodus 6:23

and the sixth, Ithream the son of David’s wife Eglah.
These were born to David in Hebron.

  • 2 Samuel 3:5

Seated in a window was a young man named Eutychus, who was sinking into a deep sleep as Paul talked on and on.  When he was sound asleep, he fell to the ground from the third story and was picked up dead.

  • Acts 20:9

I plead with Euodia and I plead with Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord.

  • Philippians 4:2

This quiz may not be passed with ease, but all the answers are men (8) and women (4) whose names begin with the letter “E.”  I picked the ones that might be recognized the easiest.  Note: None of the “E” names in the Scriptures above, with maybe the exception of Eleazar, are that well known and none of them are in the quiz.

As usual, I will provide Questions, Bible References, and the Answers, but I will, just before the Bible References, provide a list of possible answers, adding a few extra.  You can skip that colored paragraph if you think you can remember the answers outright.

The Questions:

?Bible VerseBible Verse(s)Answer
1Who was the first woman and mother of Seth?
2Who did not die, simply walked with God?
3When Samuel was born, Hannah and her husband presented him to which priest?
4What prophet, a Tishbite, is first mentioned by prophesying a drought, and then being fed by ravens?
5What prophet was anointed by the prophet in question 4 as the next prophet, and he asked for a double portion of the previous prophet’s Spirit?
6Who was a priest and well versed in the Law of Moses, reading the Law to be people who returned after the exile?
7Who won a beauty contest to become queen, wife of Xerxes, and eventually saved the Jews from extermination?
8When Job had lost everything, including his health, three “friends” show up, a Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite.  Who was the Temanite, the first to speak to Job?
9Among Job’s friends, who was the one who arrived later?
10Whose prophecies included wheels that were on fire and dry bones that come to life?
11Who was the mother of John the Baptist?
12Who was the mother of Timothy, a woman of great faith, just like Timothy’s grandmother, Lois?

One hint is that the questions are in Biblical order, and only two are from the New Testament.

Although two of the names will not show a book name in the Bible References, three of these people provide the name for Old Testament books.

I avoided using names like Ezekias.  Some older translations use this Greek version of the name Hezekiah in Matthew’s genealogy.

Some of these names may appear in the Bible more than once, question 9 as an example, but there is one by that name that is much more prominent.

The list of possible names in alphabetical order: Ehud, Eli, Elihu, Elijah, Elimelek, Eliphaz, Elisha, Elisheba, Elizabeth, Enoch, Enosh (Enos), Ephrath, Esau, Esther, Eunice, Eve, Ezekiel, Ezra.

And regardless of how you did, here is a song by a group of American Marines, Days of Elijah.  I can never get enough of this video.  Elijah and Ezekiel are both mentioned in the song.  It was a priest on Bataan (later died when transported toward Japan and the ship sunk) who made the statement that there are no atheists in foxholes.  He may not be absolutely factual in his often-made quote, but these Marines are worshipping with zeal.

And a song written by Jimmy Fortune, here helped by Bradley Walker, Mike Rogers, and Ben Isaacs, Elizabeth.
