A Humorous Sequence Quiz

Rizpah daughter of Aiah took sackcloth and spread it out for herself on a rock. From the beginning of the harvest till the rain poured down from the heavens on the bodies, she did not let the birds touch them by day or the wild animals by night.

  • 2 Samuel 21:10

Then Asa rested with his ancestors and was buried with them in the city of his father David. And Jehoshaphat his son succeeded him as king.

  • 1 Kings 15:24

The fifteenth to Jerimoth, his sons and relatives

  • 1 Chronicles 25:22

I think the Scriptures above and the video that follows may telegraph the sequence in the quiz, but I hope you will enjoy it anyway.

The sequence is produced by the first letter of each of the answers.

The Questions:

#QuestionBible ReferenceAnswer1st Let.
1Who was Naomi’s daughter-in-law who stayed with her, becoming King David’s great grandmother?
2Who was a Son of Thunder who wrote five books of the New Testament?
3In reference to the last question, who was the other Son of Thunder who Herod had put to death by the sword?
4Who was Isaac’s wife?
5What evil queen swore an oath that Elijah must be killed?
6Who was the commander of King David’s army?
7Who was the prostitute who protected the spies who were sent to spy Jericho?
8Who is the prophet, son of Pethuel, who starts his book of prophecy (only three chapters) with a plague of locusts?
9Who is the prophet who tried to run away to avoid prophesying to Nineveh?
10For a bonus question, outside the sequence, what word is only mentioned for times in the NIV, all relating to a certain type of military officers?

I struggled to think of a quiz this week.  I was getting writer’s block in a bad way.  I prayed.  I studied past quizzes to get a clue.  And then, maybe because of the pastor’s recent sermon on “What is in a Name?”, but God gave me my answer in the form of an old comedy routine.

According to Wikipedia, Bill Saluda is 84.  He will forever be remembered for this one sketch, worked into comedy routines on a variety of shows.  I remember when Steve Allen interviewed him as part of the “man on the street” routine.

But the important thing here is that God will answer you.  You may not always like the answer, but the Bible promises that all things work to the good for those who love the Lord.

As for the Scriptures, King Saul had massacred the Gibeonites.  The Gibeonites, through a ruse, obtained protection by the Israelites when Joshua was conquering the Promised Land (Joshua 9).  To repay this breach of a trust, King David had seven sons of Saul, two by Saul’s concubine, Rizpah, put to death and left on display to demonstrate that the Gibeonites had been avenged.  When David heard of Rizpah’s efforts, he gathered the remains of Saul, Jonathan, and the seven bodies that Rizpah protected and gave them a proper burial.

Jehoshaphat was the fourth king of Judah (following Rehoboam, Abijah, and Asa).  In 2 Chronicles 20, Jehoshaphat prayed for victory and victory over Moab and Ammon was granted.

Jerimoth, or Jeremoth, was a musician, under Asaph, for King David.

I guess if we go by the sequence, we will just have to call him “R J J” or “R J J junior”, if you prefer.  But, please, you don’t have to call him Johnson!

Whether you did well on this quiz or, ummm, not so well, here is Jesus by Chris Tomlin.

And here is They Stood True, sung by Redeemed Quartet.

I love this version; Jehovah Shalom Acapella singing, Have a Little Talk with Jesus.

This video starts with the Oak Ridge Boys singing Where the Soul of Man Never Dies, but why not add Guy Penrod and Mark Lowry and then have Gordon Mote and Bill Gaither on the piano – priceless.

If you like these Saturday morning Bible quizzes, but you think you missed a few, you can use this LINK. I have set up a page off the home page for links to these Saturday morning posts. I will continue to modify the page as I add more.

Soli Deo Gloria.  Only to God be the Glory.
