And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.
- Genesis 1:14-19
On the east, toward the sunrise, the divisions of the camp of Judah are to encamp under their standard. The leader of the people of Judah is Nahshon son of Amminadab.
- Numbers 2:3
From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
the name of the Lord is to be praised.
- Psalm 113:3
When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved.
- Acts 27:20
A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.
- Revelation 12:1
Think about it. With the sun, moon, and stars created on day four, you would think that the first mention of the word “sun” in the NIV would be Genesis 1, but in Genesis 1, it states a greater light to govern the day and a lesser light to govern by night. This quiz is all about the word “sun” although it could be part of sunrise or other appropriate words.

I have written recently about the summer schedule at our church. To be honest, the powers that be are afraid of people leaving if we do not maintain the tradition of moving up the second service and eliminating Sunday school for three months. My point is that Christianity never stops and we need more than an hour per week, but then they cancel that hour over 25% of the time (no Sunday school on the Sunday near Christmas and none on Easter either). It is basically a tradition among most of the established denominations in the Pittsburgh area.
But why? With daylight savings time, there is already an extra hour of sunlight after church. Moving up the second hour is an additional 45 minutes of sunlight after church, nearly two hours more. If they switched from the second hour to the first hour, even more sunlight.
It is all about the sun.
The ninth plague of Egypt, saving the best for the penultimate plague, that is best next to the firstborn dying. Egypt worshipped the sun god, Ra. Of course, among their other gods were frogs and such. But other cultures worshipped the sun, even the Israelites. In Ezekiel 8:16, it talks about the sun worshippers bowing to the morning sun from the east entrance of the temple behind them. This is one of the abominations that was cited in the chapter for the Spirit of the Lord to leave the temple.
And now, the churches are minimizing the worship of God and maximizing time in the sun on Sunday. I am just raising a question for people to ponder. The priests who led sun worshipping in the time before Ezekiel saw his vision, a vision of past misdeeds, probably thought they were doing no harm and the practice made the people “happy.”

In these questions, which are in Biblical order, I have the first and last reference to the word “sun” in the Bible, although the “Greater Light” in Genesis 1 refers to the sun.
Everything that God created during the week of Creation was good, but due to the Fall of Man, even the universe is broken to a certain extent. Wanting more time to be in the sun is silly. You will harm your skin. But then, most people want that dark tan. That is more important than the possibility of that extra sunlight causing cancer at a later date.
In the questions, we have the sun doing some bad things, something that would not have happened before the Fall of Man.
And some of the questions above may be a bit obscure, but the answer relates to the sun, like where was the sun when the event happened?
