Memory Verse Fill In Quiz

God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob.

  • Exodus 2:24

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.”

  • Exodus 17:14

For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

  • Hebrews 8:12

for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.

  • Revelation 18:5

This quiz is not about the word “remember.”  It is about common memory verses.  For those of you like me, we memorized these verses in the KJV, and, at times, we do searches in the NIV and we cannot find them.

The quiz will be sixteen memory verses with one word left out.  All the verses are from the NIV.  You may not need the word list, but I have provided one.  I did not add any distractor words.  If the word is on the list, it is a word that will answer one of the questions.  I placed the Bible verses in biblical order and the answers in alphabetical order.  I hope that shuffles them adequately.  All the answers are either nouns or verbs.

The Questions:

These Bible verses may not include your favorite verse.  The list does not include mine, but let’s say you want to memorize 100 Bible verses out of the 31,102 verses in the Bible, these Bible verses might be among the first 100.  But then, you ask one hundred people for their list of the top 100 verses and there will be considerable variations in the lists.

I tried for ease on these verses.  When the blank is where a verb should be, half the available answers are then eliminated.  The same could be said for a noun.  Since the answers are only given once, a process of elimination can reveal the other answers.  Of course, with the verbs, if the verb tense makes no sense…

Mary hid things in her heart (Luke 2:19).  The Joshua Scripture in the quiz is about keeping God’s Law and the best way is to know what the Law says.

Why is it that Sunday school teachers have memory drills to memorize verses – do they even do that anymore? – but the adults, that 5% at best of the members who attend Sunday school are never asked to quote anything.  We have become lukewarm and risk God spitting us out.

And you may say that you memorized those verses as a child and going over them again is a waste of time. …

I taught a class of maintenance people some very heavy topics.  The class ranged from people with a third-grade education to people with a few college credits.  There was one guy with such a winning attitude that it was a joy to have him in the class.  He was a farmer that worked at the plant to create a steady source of income, but he related everything that he learned to feeding crops, planting cows, and milking chickens.  Hmmm.  I might have those shuffled a little bit, but you get the idea.  On Friday, he walked into the class wearing heavy boots and bib-coveralls.  He looked me in the eye and said, “Teacher, give me the test quick.  I been a-studyin’ all night long.  I got it down pat, but it’s a-steady leakin’ out!”

If a backwoods, homespun farmer from South Carolina can realize such a simple fact about our humanity, why is it that we think that we know all we need to know when it comes to God, and we do not attend any refresher classes?  After all, we are going to be with Jesus for a lot longer than a paltry three score and ten (70 years).

Whether you did well on this quiz or, not so well, here is Wonderful Words of Life sung by the Gaither Homecoming Crowd with a trio of Allison Durham Speer, Wesley Pritchard, and Sue Dodge, and a solo by Larry Ford.

And you may see a theme of old church hymns that I grew up with.  Maybe I can boost up the tempo next week.  Here’s one from the Oak Ridge Boys, Rock of Ages.

And here is There is a Fountain Filled with Blood, sung by the Gaither Homecoming Crowd, with Buddy Greene playing the harmonica.

And here is Lord, Speak to Me, that I May Speak sung by the Grosse Point (Michigan) Memorial Church virtual choir.

If you like these Saturday morning Bible quizzes, but you think you missed a few, you can use this LINK. I have set up a page off the home page for links to these Saturday morning posts. I will continue to modify the page as I add more.

Soli Deo Gloria.  Only to God be the Glory.
