The Eyes Have It Quiz

Then Shechem said to Dinah’s father and brothers, “Let me find favor in your eyes, and I will give you whatever you ask.

  • Genesis 34:11

“You have saved our lives,” they said. “May we find favor in the eyes of our lord; we will be in bondage to Pharaoh.”

  • Genesis 47:25

“Take the staff, and you and your brother Aaron gather the assembly together. Speak to that rock before their eyes and it will pour out its water. You will bring water out of the rock for the community so they and their livestock can drink.”

  • Numbers 20:8

My eyes grow weak with sorrow; they fail because of all my foes.

  • Psalm 6:7

This quiz is about the word “eyes.”  Yes, the title uses “eyes” in the saying instead of “ayes”, but I get a bit creative at times.

The Questions:

1Who had weak eyes, but her sister had a lovely figure and was beautiful?
2When Jacob returns to Canaan and meets Esau, what does he do to seek favor with the brother he had cheated?
3In Israel’s blessing of Judah, there will be one who will come from Judah who will have eyes darker than wine. Who?
4If we see someone with our own eyes sacrificing a child to Molek, what should we do?
5Why did Elisha lay on top of a boy, mouth to mouth, eyes to eyes, hand to hand?
6According to the psalmist, what does God do with His eyes while seated on the throne?
7A blind man was cured of his blindness by Jesus, who spat and made some mud to rub on his eyes.  Why did the Pharisees interrogate the former blind man so harshly?
8What did Paul suggest to the Philippians after saying that he had tried to be a good example to them?
9If the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous and the ears of the Lord are attentive to our prayers, what is the face of the Lord against?
10In the last reference to “eyes” in the NIV, the verse calls for a time with no more death, mourning, crying, or pain, but what happens to the eyes?

The first Scripture above, on top, is from the story of Dinah’s rape and the mindless slaughter afterwards.

The second of the Scriptures above, is when all of Egypt and Canaan run out of money, they subject themselves to Pharoah as his slaves in order to get food.  This places the entire area in Pharoah’s debt, but the Israelites are not enslaved by that Pharoah.

The third of the Scriptures above when God told Moses to talk to the rock, but Moses gets frustrated with the people of Israel and strikes the rock.  Moses would not enter the promised land due to this mistake.  It was not just failing to follow God’s precise instructions but losing a bit of faith with God and turning the attention toward himself and Aaron.

Our feeling of invincibility is unbounded at times.  We only have two hands, but we risk injury all the time.  We do things to a lot of body parts that can harm that part of the body.

Then when you get a little older and your fingers do not seem to find the right keys on the keyboard while typing, you wonder if you went too far as a youth, middle-aged person, or a clumsy old person like me.  I am presently considering carpal tunnel surgery and some corrective procedures to the wrist.

But my eyes are very important.  Yet I have extreme dry eye.  I am not doing something right.  I see the doctor in another month, and I fear his prognosis.

We all think, let me get this one more thing done before …  There will always be another thing left to do.  We need to take care of ourselves.
