God heard their groaning and he remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac and with Jacob.
- Exodus 2:24
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of Amalek from under heaven.”
- Exodus 17:14
For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
- Hebrews 8:12
for her sins are piled up to heaven, and God has remembered her crimes.
- Revelation 18:5
This quiz is not about the word “remember.” It is about common memory verses. For those of you like me, we memorized these verses in the KJV, and, at times, we do searches in the NIV and we cannot find them.
The quiz will be sixteen memory verses with one word left out. All the verses are from the NIV. You may not need the word list, but I have provided one. I did not add any distractor words. If the word is on the list, it is a word that will answer one of the questions. I placed the Bible verses in biblical order and the answers in alphabetical order. I hope that shuffles them adequately. In this second set of Bible memory verses, I went with more than just nouns or verbs as the answers.

These Bible verses may not include your favorite verse. The list does not include mine, but let’s say you want to memorize 100 Bible verses out of the 31,102 verses in the Bible, these Bible verses might be among the first 100. But then, you ask one hundred people for their list of the top 100 verses and there will be considerable variations in the lists.
I tried for ease on these verses. When the blank is where a verb should be, some of the available answers are then eliminated. The same could be said for a noun. Since the answers are only given once, a process of elimination can reveal the other answers. Of course, with the verbs, if the verb tense makes no sense…

I have told the testimony in the past where a member of the Hell’s Angels walked into a building when the Board of Directors for the mission was meeting. I was the youth member of the Board among the founders of the mission.
The Hell’s Angel eventually accepted Jesus as his savior, but when he barged into the meeting, what we were doing was challenging one another with Bible memory verses. If you have a small group that really clicks well together, challenging each other to Bible verse memorization can build the group even stronger. You learn Bible verses and you each hold accountability with everyone else in the group. We could not show up without having memorized the assigned verses. Of course, the assigned verses, in the Hells’ Angel story matched the subject in evangelism that we would discuss next. So, everything tied together while knitting the team together.

Whether you did well on this quiz or, not so well, here is Praise to the Lord, the Almighty sung by the BYU Singers. A very interesting arrangement and great scenery.
Here is the Resonanz Children’s Choir from Jakarta, Indonesia singing, For the Beauty of the Earth. It is not the best known tune, at least the tune I grew up with, but since my wife was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, I decided to go with this version.
And here is Praise the Lord: Ye Heavens, Adore Him, sung by the Sun Valley, California, Grace Community Church congregation.
And here is Praise the Lord, His Glories Show sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Why did I pick these four hymns? These are the first four hymns in the hymnal that I grew up with, The Hymnbook, in the photo above. It was copyrighted in 1955 by John Ribble, commissioned by three Presbyterian denominations. The hymnal was reviled by the old folks in our church. By the time I could read, it was the only hymnal I ever knew in Sunday morning worship until the last twenty years, but on Wednesday night prayer meetings, when growing up, the church brought out the old Broadman Hymnals, much to the delight of the old folks.
This quiz spoke about memory verses. The hymns that I have as earworms in my head often come from this old hymnal. I often close my eyes and sing the hymns in church just to find that I am not singing the same words that everyone else is singing. Same tune, same hymn title, different words – a few or most of the hymn. I have officially become one of those “old folks” that has difficulty moving on to the new hymnal. The change from the KJV to the NIV has been a slow, laborious task. May we never go to a Bible that is not a reliable translation of the original text.

Soli Deo Gloria. Only to God be the Glory.
I thought once that when God told that one thing to Moses, that Moses should have wrote, “Write this on a scroll as something to be remembered and make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will completely blot out the name of ——- from under heaven.”
