When a mocker is punished, the simple gain wisdom;
by paying attention to the wise they get knowledge.
- Proverbs 21:11
By wisdom a house is built,
and through understanding it is established;
through knowledge its rooms are filled
with rare and beautiful treasures.
The wise prevail through great power,
and those who have knowledge muster their strength.
Surely you need guidance to wage war,
and victory is won through many advisers.
Wisdom is too high for fools;
in the assembly at the gate they must not open their mouths.
- Proverbs 24:3-7
The wicked flee though no one pursues,
but the righteous are as bold as a lion.
When a country is rebellious, it has many rulers,
but a ruler with discernment and knowledge maintains order.
- Proverbs 28:1-2
“American physicist and historian of science Thomas Kuhn is best known for his book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions, published in 1962. The book is both an exploration of turning points in the history of science and an attempt to set out a theory of how revolutions in science take place.
“Science, in Kuhn’s view alternates between periods of ‘normal science’ and periods of ‘crisis.’ Normal science is the routine process by which scientists working within a theoretical framework—or ‘paradigm’—accumulate results that do not call the theoretical underpinnings of their framework into question. Sometimes, of course, anomalous, or unfamiliar, results are encountered, but these are usually considered to be errors on the part of the scientists concerned—proof, according to Kuhn, that normal science does not aim at novelties. Over time, however, anomalous results can accumulate until a crisis point is reached. Following the crisis, if a new theory has been formulated, there is a shift in the paradigm, and the new theoretical framework replaces the old. Eventually this framework is taken for granted, and normal science resumes-until further anomalies arise. An example of such a shift was the shattering of the classical view of space and time following the confirmation of Einstein’s theories of relativity.”
- Sam Atkinson (senior editor), The Philosophy Book, Big Ideas Simply Explained
Thomas Kuhn (1922-1996) proposed the concept of paradigm shifts in science to explain things like Nicolaus Copernicus’ claim that the earth travels around the sun or Einstein’s theory of relativity, but in each case, there are observations and calculations to back it up.
If we stick to true science, what Kuhn called “normal” science, the paradigm shifts may be infrequent, but the result of one is ground-breaking. And to accomplish it, there is a great deal of review and examination.
But in “historical science,” the reverse is true if you are in the camp of “no God.” Evolution was created out of the brain of Darwin before there was scientific means to measure anything. Practically all scientific studies disprove his theory, but a paradigm shift backwards to the Biblical account is unthinkable in the “no God” camp. They know they are not just on shaky ground, but that they are treading water at best, possibly drowning. Yet, since the secular world wants to thumb their nose at God, they will never admit that the Biblical account is being proven by nature, the world around us, and even deep space.
A few hundred years ago, science was in the business of free unincumbered knowledge. The scientific method was the key. In three weeks, we will discuss a philosopher who attacked the scientific method, but to my knowledge, in most mathematical systems, 2 + 2 is still equal to four. When you can measure something to prove a theory, then you have fact. The fact only changes when that one measurement becomes the outlier and the rest point somewhere else.
Yet, carbon dating is flawed outside a range of 5,000 years, and the scientists claim that the samples were contaminated. All of the samples are contaminated? How is that possible? It is not if you are not afraid to shift the paradigm to a Biblical narrative.
Knowledge was working until someone decided to take God out of the equation. Let’s look at the data and see for ourselves, rather than having an agenda that flies in the face of knowledge and ignoring that the greatest of all paradigm shifts is when Christ returns, and the secular world realizes that they were wrong.
But then, they will not repent.
