“‘The high priest, the one among his brothers who has had the anointing oil poured on his head and who has been ordained to wear the priestly garments, must not let his hair become unkempt or tear his clothes.
- Leviticus 21:10
After the priest has had the woman stand before the Lord, he shall loosen her hair and place in her hands the reminder-offering, the grain offering for jealousy, while he himself holds the bitter water that brings a curse.
- Numbers 5:18
Saul sent men to David’s house to watch it and to kill him in the morning. But Michal, David’s wife, warned him, “If you don’t run for your life tonight, tomorrow you’ll be killed.” So Michal let David down through a window, and he fled and escaped. Then Michal took an idol and laid it on the bed, covering it with a garment and putting some goats’ hair at the head.
When Saul sent the men to capture David, Michal said, “He is ill.”
Then Saul sent the men back to see David and told them, “Bring him up to me in his bed so that I may kill him.” But when the men entered, there was the idol in the bed, and at the head was some goats’ hair.
- 1 Samuel 19:11-26
Now Absalom happened to meet David’s men. He was riding his mule, and as the mule went under the thick branches of a large oak, Absalom’s hair got caught in the tree. He was left hanging in midair, while the mule he was riding kept on going.
- 2 Samuel 18:9
The Lord, the Lord Almighty, called you on that day to weep and to wail, to tear out your hair and put on sackcloth.
- Isaiah 22:12
The title is the classic knocking message. Knock. Knock, knock. Knock. Knock. … Knock-Knock. The last two knocks as the reply. But more on that with the first video below.
This quiz is about “hair.” All the verses will have the word “hair” in them, but as you can tell from the selected Scriptures above, the hair may not always apply to the human hair. The first Scripture says that an ordained priest must not have unkempt hair and never tear his clothing. Caiaphas tore his robes when he claimed Jesus blasphemed. Others might, but not a priest. The next Scripture is part of the ceremony to test a woman accused of being unfaithful.
Then the next Scripture has David’s wife Michal tricking her father’s guards into thinking that David was asleep in bed when he had really escaped before they could kill him. The next is about Absalom getting his hair caught in a tree, which led to him being killed. The final Scripture is part of Isaiah’s prophecy about Jerusalem.
What made me think of this topic? I had several short stories in mind to start writing today. Those stories are coming faster than I can write them down at the moment, but my wife started badgering me. I had gotten cash out of the ATM earlier in the week to get a haircut, but I had procrastinated all week. It was Friday and she kept badgering me, although she really likes me with longer hair – more on that later. My usual barber did not have an available appointment for two weeks. Besides, his prices had jumped five dollars more since my last haircut. A few other barbers would not answer the phone – my wife calling them for me. Each time, she would call me to strike this shop or that shop from the list, like I was making a list and checking it twice. I finally thought outside the box, ten miles from the house. I got a window, no firm appointment, and invited her out for lunch. Besides, they offered a discount for first-time customers. Yes, by this time, my day had not started, and it was already lunchtime due to the constant interruptions. As I sat waiting for the barber to finish the previous customer, I was wondering if the day was totally wasted, but I heard the Voice say, “Oh, no, you now know the topic of the next Bible quiz.”

I said that I would get back to the story of my wife liking longer hair. The barber asked what comb was usually used for the clippers. I said a number “two,” but I guess all number two clipper combs are not the same. My wife used to run her fingers through my hair when we were first married. She had ultra-thin hair and there was little that she could do with it. My hair was thick and coarse. She envied my strong hair and hated that I preferred my hair short. During the military years, she had no choice and when I got out of the reserves, she did not like me cutting it, but she was getting used to it and it made me less grumpy.
But as she watched the new barber cut my hair so close, she thought how ugly that looked. Then she started thinking about how I would feel so much better afterwards. But finally, as the barber trimmed the hair so that it all looked even and nice looking, she said to herself, “That’s the man that I love.” I suppose that we have come a long way in the past 47 years.

Both of my sons have had a growing problem with not growing hair. They get that from their mother.
My father was the only one of his four brothers to still have a full head of hair when he passed away at 90-years-old, and most of it dark brown. At seventy, I have more gray hair than he did at ninety. But we had one thing in common, our facial hair was gray or white at a fairly young age.

Whether you did well on this quiz or, not so well, here is a scene from Who Framed Roger Rabbit and it features Shave and a Haircut. And if you did not know, “two bits” is a quarter, so this old saying has been around a long time. My haircut today was over one hundred bits, a lot more, and I got a better than advertised discount.
Here is Wintley Phipps, who needs no hair to have a beautiful voice and a beautiful message, singing All the Way My Savior Leads Me.
Here is Wintley Phipps singing another Fanny Crosby hymn, Praise Him, Praise Him.
And here is Acapeldrige, who has a lot more hair than Wintley Phipps, singing Near the Cross. The theme of the last three hymns was not “hair”, but Fanny Crosby hymns.

Checking knowledge is good, but sometimes looking up the answers in the Bible is even better.
