(The flax and barley were destroyed, since the barley had headed and the flax was in bloom. The wheat and spelt, however, were not destroyed, because they ripen later.)
- Exodus 9:32
Put the breadof the Presence on this table to be before me at all times.
- Exodus 25:30
Moses then said to Aaron and his sons, “Cook the meat at the entrance to the tent of meeting and eat it there with the bread from the basket of ordination offerings, as I was commanded: ‘Aaron and his sons are to eat it.’ Then burn up the rest of the meat and the bread.
- Leviticus 8:31-32
“Take the finest flour and bake twelve loaves of bread, using two-tenths of an ephah for each loaf. Arrange them in two stacks, six in each stack, on the table of pure gold before the Lord. By each stack put some pure incense as a memorial portion to represent the bread and to be a food offering presented to the Lord. This bread is to be set out before the Lord regularly, Sabbath after Sabbath, on behalf of the Israelites, as a lasting covenant. It belongs to Aaron and his sons, who are to eat it in the sanctuary area, because it is a most holy part of their perpetual share of the food offerings presented to the Lord.”
- Leviticus 24:5-9
This quiz is about bread and the grains that could be used to make bread. The answers may have to do with “bread” or a variety of grains: barley, flax, millet, spelt, and wheat. Flax may have been used in clothing and other things, but it does make a good bread and a flaxseed oil that has several health benefits. Some translations mention “corn,” but these mentions are probably a poor translation for barley or wheat since domesticated corn was developed from maize, probably in Central America.

The Isaiah question, question 1, is from a passage that uses a farmer analogy. As the Scripture says, it is well known how to distribute the seed in the field and how to thresh or not thresh the grain. All that knowledge comes from God, probably passed down to Adam and not recorded in the Bible. But the analogy goes further in that the Lord mentions that the threshing must stop at some point. To carry on the metaphor of the people of Israel and Judah being threshed, the threshing never lasts forever and a remnant will be saved.

The word “bread” is mentioned 255 times in the NIV. It is part of the sacrament of communion, representing the body of Christ Jesus. Unleavened bread is a part of the Passover feast. The people had to be ready, no time for the bread to rise. But then in Matthew 4:4 … ”Jesus answered, ‘It is written: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” ’ ”
When I started my low FODMAP diet in late 2019, one of the things that I had to give up was bread. As a result, I lost a little weight, but I still missed sandwiches. I learned that spelt made a good sourdough. I have yet to try it, but I have been looking at the recipes and I am determined. Since introducing wheat back into my diet, I found I could tolerate a little, so it became less of an issue to study spelt. These days, wheat has been hybridized to the point of not being the healthy food that is mentioned in biblical times. As usual, when mankind tries to modify what God created to get greater yield, they mess something up.
And in Reading Exodus 16, God told Moses that He was providing the Bread from Heaven as a test and the people of Israel, many of them at least, failed the test miserably.
