I had one brother.  I idolized him when I was little.  He was nine years and four months older than I was.  He was a star offensive lineman and place kicker on a football team that never lost with his class playing on the team from their sophomore year through their senior year.  They tied a much larger school in their sophomore year but beat them the next two years.  My brother was everything in high school, class president (and student body president), played football, basketball, and baseball.  And various academic awards.  He became an ordained minister.

Because he was older, he had to best me at everything.  Our fishing together ended when I caught a huge large-mouth bass before he ever got a hook in the water.  Okay, he got married soon after that…  I have rarely fished since then.  It just was not fun anymore.

My brother passed away of a brain tumor in 2011, three weeks before my father passed away and about three months before my mother passed away.  The photo above is of my brother when he volunteered to read to the school children, a couple of years before he passed away.

My wife has one brother older than she is.  She is second.  Before you get to the four girls, the next three siblings were all boys.  The next brother in line passed away of kidney failure.  Her youngest brother, with four sisters that followed, passed away this past summer.

While I never got phone calls from my brother, my wife will get a rare phone call from her older brother.  I guess that I am a rare brother who initiates the phone calling.
