Men in the Bible A to J #2 Quiz

Then the family heads of Judah and Benjamin, and the priests and Levites—everyone whose heart God had moved—prepared to go up and build the house of the Lord in Jerusalem. All their neighbors assisted them with articles of silver and gold, with goods and livestock, and with valuable gifts, in addition to all the freewill offerings.
Moreover, King Cyrus brought out the articles belonging to the temple of the Lord, which Nebuchadnezzar had carried away from Jerusalem and had placed in the temple of his god. Cyrus king of Persia had them brought by Mithredath the treasurer, who counted them out to Sheshbazzar the prince of Judah.

I have returned to a repeat quiz.  I even numbered the first quiz (#1) in anticipation of returning and it has been two and a half years, July 18, 2020. I used the same photo that I used with the first quiz of this type, and I do not think any of the men in the photo have names matching any of the answers.

The questions are in alphabetical order.  The answers to the questions begin with “A” – “B” – “C” … in that order all the way to “J”.  All are names of men in the Bible.  In the first quiz, the answers were: Aquila, Balaam, Cyrus, David, Enoch, Festus, Gideon, Haman, Ichabod, and Jeremiah.  I give you these names as a hint.  None of these names are repeated.  As another hint, none of the names in the Scriptures above are repeated either, although Cyrus and Haman are mentioned in these Scriptures from the first quiz.  As you can see in the Nehemiah Scripture, a lot of the Jewish leaders had names beginning with letters from “A” to “J”, but I tried to keep this quiz with more well-known names.

The Questions:

 QuestionBible ReferencesAnswers
1Who was the brother of Simon Peter?
2Whose name means “son of encouragement” and he encouraged Paul, accompanying Paul on his first mission trip, but broke off before the second mission trip?
3Who was a Roman centurion who invited the Apostle Peter to his home after having a vision, and later after Peter arrived, he and his household received the Holy Spirit?
4Who was the prophet who was thrown into a lion’s den?
5Which prophet challenged the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel and once those prophets were defeated prophesied that the drought was about to end?
6Who was the Roman governor of Judea who listened to the Apostle Paul’s teachings, had a wife, Drusilla, who was a Jewish woman, and kept Paul prisoner, talking with him often, hoping to be offered a bribe?  He was replaced by Festus.
7Who was a Philistine giant who taunted the Israelites, but was killed by a boy armed only with a sling and five stones?
8Who was the king that ordered all the boys, two-years-old and younger to be killed in Bethlehem and the surrounding area?
9Which prophet, the son of Amoz, prayed for a sign that Hezekiah would be cured and the shadow shifted ten steps on the stairway of Ahaz?
10Who was the second twin born of Rebekah to Isaac, and when born he was clutching his brother’s heel?

Not to give any answers away, although most should be fairly easy, but there are only three “F” men in the Bible.  One was a messenger, Fortunatus, only mentioned once, in 1 Corinthians 16 as one of the messengers who brought things from Corinth.  The other two were Roman governors, both mentioned in the question above.  So, this may be the last A to J men quiz.  But some of those letters have hardly been used up.  There might be a quiz just on “A” names or “J” names.

But in the realm of giving an answer away, there are not many prophets with a name starting with “D” that are also books in the Bible.  Ummm. Only the one.

I am asking for your prayers.  I have gotten into a rut with the quizzes of late, but as I had just written this, I thought of a nice variation of this quiz that I might try next week.

I am not thinking of complexity, but what I have done a lot of lately was to think of a word in the Bible and then have that word as the theme for ten questions, or maybe a few more.

I hope and pray that these quizzes are enjoyable, and if the answers do not immediately come to mind, that a little bit of Bible reading gives you a good score.

But variety is important also to change the pace a bit.

Whether you did well on this quiz or, ummm, not so well, for the first video.  Here is Bri (Briana Babineaux) singing Jacob’s Song.  May we all grab on tightly to God and never let go until God changes us.

And here is the Combined Choirs of Kodaly Music Institute, KMI Summer Program and Vocal Vacation, featuring soloist Pamela Wood, singing We are Climbing Jacob’s Ladder. And thinking of my rant about enunciation recently, her solo is beautiful, but do not ask me what she says.

And here is Jake Hess, Rex Nelon, George Younce, Willie Wynn singing The Fourth Man.  And the song is “messed up” by Tim Lovelace.  It’s a story from the book of Daniel, once they got past Tim Lovelace being a little “slow.”

And here is Cornelius sung by the Newsboys.  And as they ask, what does rhyme with Cornelius?  I am sure “Helium” does not fit the bill.

Soli Deo Gloria.  Only to God be the Glory.
