God has turned me over to the ungodly
and thrown me into the clutches of the wicked.
All was well with me, but he shattered me;
he seized me by the neck and crushed me.
He has made me his target;
his archers surround me.
Without pity, he pierces my kidneys
and spills my gall on the ground.
Again and again he bursts upon me;
he rushes at me like a warrior.
- Job 16:11-14
Like a bear lying in wait,
like a lion in hiding,
he dragged me from the path and mangled me
and left me without help.
He drew his bow
and made me the target for his arrows.
- Lamentations 3:10-12
The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.
- Revelation 20:13-15
I had a great deal of recycle. All of the containers were either class 1 or class 2 recycle plastic. The rules are that they have to be in a container, but not in bags.
But a couple of weeks ago, a winter storm came through. The roads were clear of snow, but there were high winds.
There are two scenarios for how the lid got shattered.
Scenario one: The wind blew the lid off. I will stop and toss the lid into the person’s yard, but most people use trashcan lids as targets. They try to run over the lids. They make funny sounds when they shatter.
Scenario two: There are a group of hoodlums that think they own the street at night. I have never called the police, but others have and the police can do nothing. It is a stupid message, but the message might be for me to “mind my own business” thinking I am the one calling the police. They could have smashed it. Neanderthal minds think that to be funny.
In either case, the trashcan lid was placed back on the trashcan.
And oddly, since the lid was broken, the recycle people refused to take my recycle. Was that the reason or had snow fallen on the plastic bottles and they are not allowed to take wet recycle?
I think C. S. Lewis is right. We live in a kind of Hell and someday the cock will crow, and we will emerge into a glorious world.
Soli Deo Gloria. Only to God be the Glory.
The lid was broken, and the recycle people refused to take your recycle? Why am I not surprised.

Don’t worry. I patched the lid with a trash bag and painter’s tape. It’s ugly, but it keeps rain off the precious plastic bottles. They took it on the next recycle day. And they mean it when they only accept dry recycle. They will only accept cardboard that is dry and not contained in any container – broken down and flat laid next to the container – so I only take that out when the weatherman says it will be clean and sunny. They are definitely picky.
