This quiz is about the word “large.”  As usual, I searched for “large” in the NIV.  Other translations could use a different word.  The four Scriptures above mention a large tree, a large rock, a large number (meaning many), and large supplies (meaning a lot).  In this quiz, the question will be “what is large?”  I tried to stick to physical items, but one is a grouping of something not nearly as large.  Obviously!  If you have one chicken feather, they are not that large, but if you had a dump truck full of chicken feathers, you will have a large load of chicken feathers…  Until the truck drives down the high-speed, four-lane highway for a few miles.  Then the shoulder of the road contains a lot of chicken feathers.  I hate it when that happens.  And yes, I have seen that on the side of the road.  I just imagined the dump truck depositing them along the way.  Then again, my father worked in the poultry processing business most of his adult life, and those feathers have to go somewhere!

The questions are in biblical order and all except for the last come from the Old Testament.

When I told my son that I was writing a quiz about ‘large,’ he said, “You know you are talking to ‘Fat Boy’!”  I assured him that I would NOT mention that comment.  Oops!  My bad.

I know he has trouble maintaining his weight, but I never see him as that.  I am bigger, although we weigh about the same.  I like what comedian Don McMillan says about that.  It is not that I am overweight, I am three inches too short.  I’m going to join Height Watchers!  Okay, with me it might be 5 inches too short.

And in this world of everything being “large” and “relative,” if you buy a Hawaiian shirt that is made in P. R. China, get a size larger. The online shopping giant did not put that warning on the item until after I bought my son what he wanted for Christmas, and it did not fit.  And I hate buying shoes over the internet because I might wear a 10 ½ or an 11 or an 11 ½ all depending on how the manufacturer makes room within the shoe.  Length is not the only factor, and they seem to ignore width these days.  My son? Forget it.  He wears 14 ½ and he makes them fit.  Few brick and mortar stores have that size.

This quiz is about the word “large,” but other words convey the same meaning.  “Big” is mentioned, but it seems half the references are to the big toe.  There are huge armies.  Enormous is mentioned a few times.  Gigantic is used to describe a furnace in Revelation 9.  Hmmm.  I wonder in what dimension John was referring?  I often trained people in operating a “tunnel” furnace.  Not tall, not wide, but sometimes over two football fields (think either American football or soccer) in length.

Now, when the boys were growing up, their favorite word for when something was unusually large was ginormous.  I thought they made the word up.  You know, gigantic and enormous mashed together, but the word is in the dictionary, at least a few.  It is just not in the Bible.

And of course, a human could be considered a giant.
