A Forgotten Quiz

Remember this and never forget how you aroused the anger of the Lord your God in the wilderness [worshipping the Golden Calf]. From the day you left Egypt until you arrived here, you have been rebellious against the Lord.

  • Deuteronomy 9:7

If I forget you, Jerusalem, may my right hand forget its skill.

  • Psalm 137:5

They will forget their shame and all the unfaithfulness they showed toward me when they lived in safety in their land with no one to make them afraid.

  • Ezekiel 39:26

This quiz is about verses containing the word “forget” which contains forgets or forgetting.  No further comment.

Editor’s Note: The author of this quiz cannot get away with that.  He forgot an important piece of paper for a medical test, which means the medical test may have to be performed again.  Oops!

Writer’s Note: I am the sole writer and editor for this site, but my editing side is having fun with my writing side over this one.

The questions are in biblical order.  All but the last two are in the Old Testament.

The Questions:

1The first reference to the word “forget” in the NIV is when someone says to someone else, “When your brother is no longer angry with you and forgets what you did to him…”  Who is the person talking and who are the two brothers?
2Why did Joseph name his firstborn Manasseh?
3Moses warns the people to be obedient to God and then gives them a command related to them being eyewitnesses of the things God has done for them.  What must they do?
4As first Samuel starts a woman is praying to God that He will not forget His servant, and if she can produce a son, she will give her son to God.  Who is this woman?
5What happened prior to God reminding the northern tribes that they must not forget God and worship other gods in 2 Kings 17?
6Who paints a bleak mental picture before Job, the second friend to speak, and then punctuates it with something like ‘and that is what happens when someone forgets God?’
7In Psalm 9, God promises that nations who forget God will go down into the realm of the dead, but God will never forget whom?
8Isaiah prophesies that we should forget the things of the past.  Why?
9Jesus said that when a woman gives birth, she forgets what and for what reason?
10The last reference to “forget” in the NIV is Peter telling his readers of the letter to never forget that with the Lord, a day is like what?

I forgot a piece of paper that was supposed to have been sent with a urine sample to a remote lab.  The lab has not called to state that they need more information, so the nurse says to not worry about it, but my doctor appointment may get cancelled if the doctor does not have the lab results.  Now it is a waiting game.  I have never been good at waiting games.

Was I distracted at the time?  Yes, my son was having severe lapses in memory, in that he would wander the neighborhood looking for a house that has not existed in that form in about 35 years.  He could have easily, in his condition, wandered into traffic, but God was protecting him.  He has since had medication changes that change the nature of his memory losses.  No less memory loss, but no panicking and wandering through the neighborhood.

It is frustrating to my son, but as a father it is also frustrating.  Sometimes the only thing that he remembers from yesterday is one of our phone calls, but which one?  When did I talk to him about that thing that needs doing?  And telling him the same thing every day tears at your gut, knowing he will not remember tomorrow.

Thus, the theme for this quiz, but most of the forgetfulness in the quiz questions is due to willful acts of rebellion.

My grandchildren use the “I forgot” card all the time.  If it were not for the seriousness of disobedience, lack of respect, and horrid laziness when it comes to cleaning up their room or doing family chores, I could laugh, since their father did the same thing when he was their age.  Do I have to wait until these kids are forty-something for them to understand?  With their father already disabled (hopefully temporarily) because of having to do all the household chores while the family simply acts like slobs, making the job harder, will the children ever learn?  All they know is that if the place gets too messy, Daddy will fix it.  He’ll complain, but he’ll do it.

My son is even worse than I was about chores and such.  He was once a manager at a fast-food restaurant, and he was Serve Safe certified.  He tries to run his kitchen like a restaurant, making his frustration and stress (causing more seizures) even worse.  But he will do it when things get out of hand.

But you know the “I forgot” card, I am sure, if you ever had children.  Why is your homework not done?  I forgot.  Why are the dishes not washed?  I forgot.  Why is there an even layer of your clothing on the floor when I told you to put it in your dresser drawers?  I forgot.

They could save time by recording their voice saying those two words.  Oops.  I know they never read my blog, but providing a lazy way to say “I forgot” is too tempting.
