God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well. This will happen when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven in blazing fire with his powerful angels.
- 2 Thessalonians 1:6-7
Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you;
therefore he will rise up to show you compassion.
For the Lord is a God of justice.
Blessed are all who wait for him!
- Isaiah 30:18
It is unthinkable that God would do wrong,
that the Almighty would pervert justice.
- Job 34:12
“Growing old is like being increasingly penalized for a crime you haven’t committed.”
- Anthony Powell, Temporary Kings
Yesterday, I was in a joking mood. On Friday afternoons, I post a quote that my wife put in a little notebook. The quotes are all about growing old, and I have the quote above, along with the Scriptures that I used yesterday.
This morning, I woke up and I found it extremely hard to move. I had terrible arthritic pain in my hands and wrists. The worst in each thumb. My lower back pain was bothering me, and I had a monster crick in my neck.
My first few attempts to get out of bed were failures.
When I got vertical the first time, my legs were wobbly.
The worst part was as the day went on, the hands were still in bad shape and the problem of getting vertical from a sitting position was dicey.
As the sun is just setting while writing this, I am starting to feel normal for the first time all day.
Hmmm. Was this a test of faith? Was this God getting my attention that all this humor regarding getting old has a serious side to it?
Regardless, my attention is on the fact that I am not a spring chicken myself. I need to heed these little quotes as somewhat true, although often humorous on their own.
But getting old is not for sissies. Hmmm. That sounds familiar, but I cannot remember who said it.
Soli Deo Gloria. Only to God be the Glory
