For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
- 1 Corinthians 13:12
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
- Matthew 5:8
They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
- Revelation 22:4
In February, I wrote about a commercial that I found strange, Two Different Surprises. The same software has three more commercials. They all advertise that this software can fix the social or business problems that you might have by going further down the software administrative assistant and AI rabbit hole.
One of the commercials has part of the screen showing text bubbles, usually in Spanish, and the video is of a group of young people sitting on the ground. One is center stage, talking, but all you hear is the guitar music. The version that is in portrait mode has three people, but the landscape version shows a couple more. Listening to the speaker on the left side of the screen is a large guy in the center of the frame. He thinks he has something in his teeth and he tries to suck it off his teeth. Then he laughs. He has buck teeth, and he immediately puts a couple of fingers over his mouth to either cover his two front teeth or the thing he was trying to remove from them. Does showing this make the commercial look more real?
Thinking of reality, the girl sitting next to the big guy says a very common phrase that uses God’s name in vain. Sorry, it is so obvious that a novice at reading lips could tell. This just shows how far we have descended.
Second commercial: A guy is in his car, I think. He talks about a group of people with a strange name. This software is mentioned as being the group’s savior, although the word ‘savior’ is not used. They were just three casual friends, and now that this software manages their text communication, they are now REAL friends.
Really? Does it take having less face to face connection to become REAL?
And the third one has a subtitle of getting a call from your millennial manager. It is obviously a video call. She apologizes instead of saying ‘hello.’ She has made a mess of a presentation, and it has to get fixed. She talks a mile a minute, and it all comes down to the fact that she has so many texts in her group chats that she has no idea which way is up. Umm. She is the manager?
The only part that I can remember is that their upcoming gathering will either have tacos or hot dogs, and she is irritated that the idiots working for her do not see that tacos are far superior. Wait, she is the boss. Asking for consensus over trivial things like hot dogs or tacos is wasting company time. And again, all communication is by text. The thing she uses in the software is a summarizing tool that takes all the texts on one topic and gives her a summary.
The thing that I notice is that her irises are small, and you can see the whites of her eyes all the way around. This could be genetic, but there are some medical issues that could explain this attribute, and some of those issues are life threatening, but hey, if the only way to communicate is by text, no one would know. Is that progress, to have your boss die of some disease because the people who care never see her face?
Maybe if brick and mortar stores are disappearing due to shopping online, maybe brick and mortar offices are next. That makes texting so much easier than a face to face conversation.
I had a friend, who has passed away, like a lot of my friends… Anyway, he thought that the prophecy that Jesus will appear to all on earth at the same moment will be because He will appear on the phones, since everybody has their face buried in the phone anyway. Under that concept, appearing in the sky might be missed by a lot of people these days.
I am so glad that I am retired…
And I am looking forward to that moment when I see Jesus face to face – not an image on the phone.
Soli Deo Gloria. Only to God be the Glory.
