I am continuing the series of quizzes on the “seven deadly sins: Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Gluttony, Wrath, and Sloth.”

The questions relate to verses that have the word “wrath” in them.

The questions are in Biblical order, with the first seven from the Old Testament.

Do I have anger issues?

Before I answer that, may I use a trick that I have condemned in other posts?  I mean, everyone else compares…

Okay, since you are not buying the argument of “I am less than 5% of the hothead my Dad was, and he was at least half the hothead that his father was…”

Yes, I have had my moments.  I told the boys to stew for a little while before the punishment began.  That was not a form of punishment in itself, in that they knew something bad was going to happen, so why not get it over with.  No, I wanted to not be angry when I administered the punishment.  I was no Ward Cleaver from Leave It to Beaver.  But, then, no one ever was…  Or maybe a rare few.

But the one thing that happened to me all the time was that my Dad was ordered by my mother to beat me.  He had no idea why, other than he secretly knew that she hated me.  I wanted the boys to know why they were being punished and what was to be learned.  Did they listen?  Probably not, so I guess they were not Beaver Cleavers either.

But my wife lectured me often about how the idiot driver who cut me off in traffic could not hear me bickering, but she could.  But bickering let me release the emotions without ever going into road rage.  We are to forgive instead of getting even.  Besides, usually he had a bigger car, probably a gun in the glove compartment, etc.

Wrath?  No, that is a God thing.  But fits and spits of losing my cool, more than I want to admit.

Have you noticed that Ephesians 4:26 ends with a comma?  We should not let the sun set on our anger because if we do, we give the devil a foothold in our lives.

But do not try to make a rule that both husband and wife have to make up before we go to bed.  That is what sofas are for.  And before you argue that the wife started it, the husband goes to the sofa.  Not negotiable.

Some of our worst fights were when I quoted this Ephesians 4:26 and my wife was determined that Paul should have had his head examined when he wrote that.  She was still angry.  She was sleeping alone.  And if I awoke the next morning, that meant she did not kill me in my sleep, so maybe she was not that angry with me.

Truth was that she would not hurt a fly, but maybe if she had some kind of psychotic episode…

For all you husbands out there, the tactic is to keep the husband off balance.  Making up has its benefits, but the wife wants everything on her terms when that happens.  As the saying goes, just saying…

And to be honest, maybe more than half the time I was at fault.  Then, me being an engineer and thinking logically caused trouble.  Like when her offense was not bad enough for us to have an argument, so this was a great time for her to admit it was her fault…  Naïve has my picture next to it in the dictionary.

But one of the reasons that my wife and I connected and we stayed happily married for nearly fifty years, only have her heart stop before we reached fifty years.

Oh, the reason.  We both easily showed our emotions.  The good ones were great times.  The bad emotions meant we walked on eggshells.

But boring?  Never!

And another thing my wife hated was me being able to share.  She thought I shared too much.  Her plan was to not share at all.  So, I think I will end this discussion with me zipping my lip.

Whether you did well on this quiz or, ummm, not so well, for the first video, here is Joshua Miller singing Slow to Anger.

Here is Devon Kauflin and Lacy Condy,  singing All I Have is Christ.

We owe everything to Jesus.  It is all His.  When we think we have a right to wrath, we are forgetting that.  And we are forgetting that the commandment Jesus gave us was to love one another.  You cannot forgive and hold onto the anger.  You must let it go.
