Vespers – Apostle’s Creed – The Life Everlasting

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.

Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.

The Message

Why do I believe that I will have everlasting life?

Because Jesus said it, and I trust Him.

What will everlasting life be?

I have no idea other than it will be better than anyone on earth can imagine and there have been many very imaginative people.

What will everlasting life not be?

Again, I have no idea, but I doubt if we will be on a cloud somewhere, strumming a harp that we do not know how to play, and bored out of our minds.

I am perfectly happy with not knowing, only knowing that the best thing that ever happened to me on earth will be multiplied by infinity, and it will last forever.

And please do not ask how time will pass in Heaven.

I don’t even have a guess for that one.

Closing Prayer

Dear Lord,
We believe in You.  We trust You.  We take You at Your word that we will live with You for evermore.  At times in my life, that promise is the thing that has kept me going.  But You were there with me during those dark times.  I cannot praise You enough, but in the life everlasting, I will have the time to do so.
In Thy name we pray,
Amen
