Sorry, when I was thinking about another quiz style, the idea popped into my head “every other word.”  I thought that was ridiculous.  The next morning, “every other word.”  So, here goes.

The ten verses were chosen by google AI.  I asked for ten memory verses.  These are all good verses to memorize, but they may not all be in my particular top ten.  But then again, the verses are not like the chosen verses above.  They are not from an apportionment of land, or detail instructions for the Levites, or part of a census.  Each of the verses in the quiz should be familiar.

But as I started populating the table, the word list quickly filled.  I decided that five verses were enough.  The other five verses will be in next week’s quiz.  It might be different if printed out so that you could cross off words as you use them.

So here is a quiz that is fill in the blank and every other word is a blank.  A word list is provided.  The questions are in Biblical order, with the first four verses from the Old Testament.  The word list is in alphabetical order.

In the “in between” discussions, I would like to look at the repeated words in the word list.

There two words used three times in the word list, with and your.  Then once more without the possessive, you.

This reminds me of a person on our Lay Witness Mission team that talked to the other mission team members as he was talking to the members of the church where we were witnessing.

His entire message could be summarized by one statement.  Be careful what the first word is in most of your sentences when you give your testimony.

What does that mean?

Have you ever heard this Christian testimony?  One sentence for each of the three parts: I was a sinner. I accepted Jesus. I have a life that is changed.

Where is God in that testimony?  God was never mentioned once.

Here is the same testimony, with the focus rightfully placed: God convicted me of my sins.  God came into my life.  God is making everything within me new.

The two times that the word “I” is used in the word list is in God promising what He will do for us.

I was afraid of the arbitrary elimination of every other word.

I could have ended up with a word list filled with articles: a (1), an, the (2).  The “a” is followed by a letter starting with a consonant, as it should.  That was not much of a hint.

God has his way of making things work out.

As for the other word that appears three times in the word list, it is “with”.

We do not walk through this life alone when God is in our heart.  He goes with us.  When others are with us, we are not alone.  And when alone, we are always with God.

“With” connected us with every other believer, even when we do not agree with one another on some particular detail.
