Why No Value Before?

The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with him.

  • Proverbs 11:1

The Lord detests differing weights, and dishonest scales do not please him.

  • Proverbs 20:23

The merchant uses dishonest scales and loves to defraud.

  • Hosea 12:7

saying, “When will the New Moon be over that we may sell grain, and the Sabbath be ended that we may market wheat?”— skimping on the measure, boosting the price and cheating with dishonest scales,

  • Amos 8:5

Shall I acquit someone with dishonest scales, with a bag of false weights?

  • Micah 6:11

I have been hearing an advertisement on my phone for quite some time.  I am starting to get the commercial on television.  It starts with a talking head saying, “&^*(&^() is putting value back on the menu.”  I wrote gibberish instead of the company name, but if you have seen the commercial you know who it is.

I am a logically minded person who has a heart that keeps beating.  Thus, there is passion in my veins.

I must ask that if this company is now placing value back on the menu, and they are bragging about it, then they are very much aware that there was no value in their meals before this point.  If there was, why make adding value to the menu the focus.

Is it the same food?  Yes.

Is the food cheaper?  Not really.  They package it with items that you might not want or you would want a smaller size, but the bigger the package deal becomes, the bigger the “savings.”

But you are not saving.  You are adding empty calories that you did not need and would not pay for, but since it’s only a nickel more (as an example, but probably more than five cents) you buy it because the advertisement said you were saving.

But why are they having this advertising campaign?

Have the consumers realized that the food really is not that good or good for you?

And we are supposed to flock back to the restaurant because you have confessed that you have been cheating us for years?  Why should we trust you now?

Is that not what you are saying by telling the world that you have finally put value back on the menu?  You are confessing your sin that you had no value on the menu before.

Of course, putting it back on the menu means that you had it before and you dropped it from the menu on purpose to make more money for those people who have shares in your company.  They are a greedy lot.  They want higher dividends and they want that money in their account yesterday.

We know why you dropped value from the menu.

And I suppose that you thought no one would see the truth in what you said.  Like sheep to the slaughter, they will blindly follow the flashing lights to the drive thru and order “Value” and think they are saving.

Some of us will not fall for it.  And thankfully I have no children begging me to go there again because the child only needs one more toy to complete the set.

Yes, we are aware of your other tricks also.

Of course, they are adding a “Value Meal”, a packaged meal that pretends savings, but only if that was what you wanted in the first place.

But saying the words dramatically to play on emotions instead of logic, they set themselves up for backlash.

Soli Deo Gloria.  Only to God be the Glory.
