Do not have two differing weights in your bag—one heavy, one light. Do not have two differing measures in your house—one large, one small. You must have accurate and honest weights and measures, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.
- Deuteronomy 25:13-15
“If I have denied justice to any of my servants,
whether male or female,
when they had a grievance against me,
what will I do when God confronts me?
What will I answer when called to account?
- Job 31:13-14
A sluggard’s appetite is never filled,
but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.
- Proverbs 13:4
“Woe to him who builds his palace by unrighteousness,
his upper rooms by injustice,
making his own people work for nothing,
not paying them for their labor.
- Jeremiah 22:13
“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.
- Luke 16:10
I am doing something that I have not done in roughly six years. I looked in a book for a new quiz idea. It’s an old idea, but the theme and list of verses comes from Ultimate Bible Trivia by Timothy E. Parker.
I know, if anyone starts off talking about trivial things in the Bible, I think they do not know what they are talking about. Then again, when Jesus first met Matthew, did He call him Matthew or Levi? Does anyone say for sure? But is that essential to our salvation? I think I bristle at the concept of anything being “trivia” when all Scripture is good for instruction, etc.
But this theme includes verses that speak of running a business. It punches a hole in that concept that God is worshipped on Sunday, and it is now a week day. No one should think God is for only an hour or two on Sunday morning, but a lot of people who say they are Christians act that way.
The questions are in Biblical order, with the first eight from the Old Testament. The word list is in alphabetical order.

The answers to four of these questions are the people that you hurt when doing business dishonestly.
But as I looked at the answers, a couple of them are interchangeable. So, I apologize ahead of time when it gets down to two verses, and when you flip a coin, you miss those two.
But not deceiving others, not using dishonest scales… Those things are just as much a sin as robbing the bank or cheating on your taxes.
But if you have put the effort into a quality products and you sell that product at a loss, at some point, you must have a plan to break even or you are cheating yourself.
I developed a few training programs at my last place of employment. There was value in the knowledge that went into developing the training. I was forced into a price that did not cover half my research, much less extra to cover the knowledge required to develop the training. But we sold a lot of those classes, at an even more reduced rate. I covered my expenses, but the original loss was never recovered. It’s the old joke of selling things at a loss, but we make up for it in volume of sales. That never works.

But thinking of dishonest scales, automobile buying is high on the list. The price on the car window is never really the price. It comes down to how well you dicker the price with the dealer. He gives away some of his obscene profits, and you still pay too much. It’s the guy who does not need the car that gets a good price.
But my wife loved curio shopping, the cuter the merchandise the better.
She went into one store and looked around. Nothing had a price on it.
We had just moved to this town. My wife instantly made a few friends, and she had one of her friends with her.
She asked the friend why there was no price on anything in the store.
Her friend said, “There are three prices on everything in the store. If you are a friend or family, as in born in this town, you get the friends and family discount. If you have been in this store a dozen times over the last year, and it will take a year or longer, you get the regular price. If you are not from here or they simply do not recognize you, the price is doubled.”
I have noticed that jewelry has a price tag, but it is hidden by the mounting (the fake finger for a ring). You must ask them to remove the item from the case to even know if you can afford it. My wife would never wince. She would casually see the price, know that she could not afford it in a million years, but she would hold it up to the light, turn it to see the facets of the stone from different angles. Then she would hand it back and make an excuse that the stone was not cut the way she liked or the setting was all wrong for the other jewelry that she would wear with it. The store uses the guilt that they had to unlock the case to make you feel obligated to at lease make an offer, but my wife knew that game and played it against them for her own entertainment. Most of her “shopping” was entertainment and not what a man calls shopping.
