Soft Soap

To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.  Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

  • John 8:31-32

“If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end. If you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth — only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin with and, in the end, despair.”

  • C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

I think that soap manufacturers had something to do with the placement of the soap dish in showers.  It sits so that the water that bounces off your body forms a steady stream pouring over the bar of soap.  If you take a shower that lasts a little too long, you reach for the bar of soap and it has the consistency of warm butter.  I have seen an entire bar of “soft soap” disappear while taking a shower, simply dissolving into the passing water.  I now have a soap dish far beyond the water flow, one that I placed there.

So, when C. S. Lewis talks of getting nothing more than soft soap, you are buying into something that does you no good at all.  I doubt if it washes the drainpipe as it goes downstream.

But Jesus says if you believe in Him and His teaching, you will have truth and the truth will set you free.

But we live in the Post-Truth Era.  Don’t we?  We hear things like this.  “Everyone defines their own truth.  Truth is relative.  Truth depends upon your circumstances.”  Don’t believe it.  That is Satan whispering in your ear.

There is truth.  So, when we give up on seeking truth and figure that truth is a will-o’-the-wisp, we have fallen for Satan’s lies.  We no longer seek the truth.  We no longer turn to Jesus.  Regardless of which politician came up with the post-truth concept to cover-up his lies, Satan used the concept to try to get an entire generation to wander away from God.

We need to continue to seek the truth, in spite of the growing number of insane people who follow Satan at every turn, thinking that they are being “progressive.”

I recently finished reading Ken Ham’s book, The Lie, where he spells out the need to believe the entirety of the Bible, understanding the forms of literature used.  But Ham even mentioned that when a metaphor is used or prophecies call upon certain symbols, those metaphors and symbols mean something.

I also watch the television show, Origins, and last night’s episode was a rerun of Dr. John Baumgardner’s talk on Deep Time – Deep Deception.  Dr. Baumgardner, an original member of the RATE team, spelled out that the concept of millions of years is a lie perpetrated to cast doubt on the Bible.  The concept of millions of years has been proven wrong, but the atheist “scientists” simply wave their hands and say that the measurements are tainted.  Meaning, all the measurements that they have made using carbon-14 dating are “tainted” because they keep getting numbers that they do not want – thousands of years and not millions.  These “scientists” are ignoring science and knowingly lying.  Then the teachers in the schools that do not know they are passing along lies, teach the children, brainwashing them into believing that the Bible is wrong.

But true science has given evidence that the Bible is correct, and the secular world is trying to silence them.  The secular world is happy with Satan’s lie that truth does not exist.  Satan’s goal is to convince people that Jesus does not exist.  The secularists have a goal, to do what they want when they want and not have to answer for the consequences.

Yet, each of us who follows that way finds an emptiness.  While alcohol, drugs, and other diversions can numb the pain of that emptiness, the emptiness is still there.

Jesus can fill the void if we will only seek the truth.  The truth exists; it exists in Jesus.

Soli Deo Gloria.  Only to God be the Glory.
