Taking Medicine

A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

  • Proverbs 17:22

The other day, my wife, our daughter-in-law, and I were sitting in their living room.  My wife had just had some instant oatmeal for breakfast.  Our son, knowing that I like grits, produced a bowl of grits for me.

I thanked him, but then I said, “I took my morning medicines about 20 minutes ago and I am not supposed to eat until thirty minutes after.  But I doubt if that particular pill can tell time.  I know for a fact that the pill was not wearing a watch when I swallowed it.”  My wife takes the same medicine, but if you eat before you take the pill, you have to wait an hour, but again, can the pill tell time?!?!

My wife asked what I would have to do if I crossed from one time zone into another when I took the pill.  Would I have to wait again or immediately take another pill, all depending on whether we were traveling east or west?

Our daughter-in-law asked about time released pills.  How do they know when to release without a clock or watch?  Enquiring minds want to know!

But then, we all got the idea about the same time, with our daughter-in-law starting off saying, “What happens if you are on a plane…” Then we all said, “… and you just passed over the international date line?!?!?!”

With our mental faculties well stimulated, with our hearts cheerful, we were ready for the day.

Soli Deo Gloria.  Only to God be the Glory.
