But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you: to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.”
- Joshua 22:5
This quiz is about memory verses, in a way. I may do a memory verse quiz on occasion that is simply a list of verses from throughout the Bible, at random, but these are familiar verses if you have ever used the Four Spiritual Laws tracts.
I was a resource when I was in college for the Four Spiritual Laws tracts, the little yellow tracts. If someone had run out, and they could not find a member of Campus Crusade for Christ (now called Cru), they could come to me. I usually had a couple hundred in my glove compartment. When I went on Lay-Witness Mission trips, many of the other team members lined up to get a few for the weekend.
I had the thing memorized through the part about accepting Jesus, but there were more verses mentioned. Those added verses were for Spiritual growth. Of course, I had the verses memorized from the King James Version (KJV).
In this quiz, all in the NIV, I have listed the verses for the Four Laws, followed by the verses that accompany the GROWTH acronym. These are in order as seen in the tract. BUT, the Bible References have been shuffled into Biblical order, from Matthew through Revelation. Note: All these verses come from the New Testament.
Warning: Since this quiz is a matching quiz, matched to the Bible Reference, there will be no Bible Reference section. It will go straight to the answers.
The Questions:
? | Verse | Book, chapter, verse(s) |

4 | For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. | John 14:6 |

6 | But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. | John 15:7 |
7 | For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers and sisters at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. | John 15:8 |
8 | Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. | John 17:3 |
9 | Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— | Acts 1:8 |
10 | For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God — not by works, so that no one can boast. | Acts 17:11 |
11 | Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me. | Romans 3:23 |
12 | If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. | Romans 5:8 |
13 | Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. | Romans 6:23 |
14 | Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.” | 1 Corinthians 15:3-6 |
15 | “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” | Galatians 5:16-17 |
16 | This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. | Ephesians 2:8-9 |
17 | Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. | 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 |
18 | So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. | 1 Peter 5:7 |
19 | But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” | Revelation 3:20 |
I did not always use every verse from this list when I talked with someone, and if you go through the Cru training program, there are a lot more verses that were printed on perforated pages in the back of each book. They were perforated so that you could tear them out and use them as flash cards.
Even if you never shared your faith in the manner that was designed, the verses, once memorized, worked toward Christian growth.
What is tricky about this quiz is that most people who use the tract are talking to people who may have never opened a Bible in their lives. They rarely state the book, chapter, and verse. So, this quiz might be tough for even the seasoned veteran.
For those who are not familiar with the four laws. They are represented by the first eleven Bible verses in the quiz. And my paraphrase of the laws are:
- God loves you.
- But we have sinned, and we have a sin nature. We cannot span the chasm between us and God.
- Jesus is God’s provision to restore that connection between us and God.
- We must each individually accept Jesus as our Savior, believing and trusting in Him.
As Bill Bright, co-founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, said, he had researched many successful evangelists and these four facts, if you do not like “laws”, were common in every evangelist’s method to explain God’s plan for our salvation. Thus, the tract was the product of careful research.
Oh! The GROWTH Acronym, represented by the last eight verses in the quiz:
G – Go to God in prayer daily
R – Read the Bible daily
O – Obey God’s commands
W – Witness for Jesus in actions and words
T – Trust in God in everything
H – Holy Spirit – Let Him guide and counsel you

Since you did so well, here is someone talking through the four spiritual laws. It is a couple of videos equaling about 10 minutes.
And I hope you enjoy this commencement speech by Denzel Washington. It is less than 9 minutes. While he mentions near the end to “name it and claim it,” he qualifies that misleading statement as naming something that does good and once you receive, take someone else and draw them up to you. Don’t achieve without helping others to achieve. Name it and claim it is not what Christianity is all about unless what we name is to be more like Jesus every day.
