Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
- Matthew 10:28
“’Do not fear those who can kill the body.’ Physically, it is indeed true that one can fall by the hand of another. Spiritually, the truth is that one can fall only by his own hand. No one can corrupt you except yourself.”
- Søren Kierkegaard, Provocations (from Thoughts that Radically Cure)
You cannot get to Heaven except through Jesus Christ, but you get to Hell on your own strength.
I have heard that many times. Maybe one person phrases it a little differently than the last, but it is true.
God only wants people who want to worship Him and enjoy Him forever. God does not take people to Heaven unwillingly. So, that ties in nicely, or not so nicely. You might think you want freedom from God, but God is the One who holds everything together – all that we know of as a universe, including our own bodies. Without God, there will be eternal torment.
Another saying that I have heard is that when we tell God “Your will be done,” thus surrendering to God’s will, we are welcomed into Heaven. But if we reject God and His will, God tells those people, “Your will be done.” And sends them to Hell.
There is a lot of talk about Hell here.
We can each avoid Hell by accepting Jesus into our hearts, believing in Him, trusting that He has our best interests at heart and He will remain with us forever. Jesus wants a meaningful personal relationship with each of us, right here on earth.
And benefit beyond having an earthly Savior that we can count on, He will be with us as we enter into Paradise.
Soli Deo Gloria. Only to God be the Glory.
