Sexual Peak – with a little help

May your fountain be blessed,
    and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.
A loving doe, a graceful deer—
    may her breasts satisfy you always,
    may you ever be intoxicated with her love.

  • Proverbs 5:18-19

She
Awake, north wind,
    and come, south wind!
Blow on my garden,
    that its fragrance may spread everywhere.
Let my beloved come into his garden
    and taste its choice fruits.
He
I have come into my garden, my sister, my bride;
    I have gathered my myrrh with my spice.
I have eaten my honeycomb and my honey;
    I have drunk my wine and my milk.
Friends
Eat, friends, and drink;
    drink your fill of love.

  • Song of Songs 4:16-5:1

The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife does not have authority over her own body but yields it to her husband. In the same way, the husband does not have authority over his own body but yields it to his wife. Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

The New Boilerplate

My wife filled a small book with “Angel” on the cover.  It was hidden with a box of crafting things.  On 18 July 2025, I thought I had posted the last of these.  But this little angel book held a prayer, followed by 71 quotes.  So, the “with a little help” series is back in business for a while.  And it will be fun for me.  She did not attribute any of the quotes.  The first quote was from James A. Garfield, the 20th president of the USA.  The next one was disputed, with some thinking it originated with Teddy Roosevelt and others saying Fred Astaire.  After the prayer, these might be on the lighter side.

Her quote

“Men reach their sexual peak at eighteen. Women reach theirs at thirty-five. Do you get the feeling that God is playing a practical joke?”

The Discussion

I had not heard a Rita Rudner stand up comedy act in a long time.  She has been a headliner in Las Vegas since 2001, and I do not get HBO.  So, I refreshed my memory with some YouTube selections.  I really like her.  She has a soft delivery.  What I heard was clean.  In fact, she set up the jokes nicely.  Then she delivered the punchline and then paused.  Her conversational style is filled with easy one-liners, but then there are layers.  The thinking person figures out the deeper meaning.

This joke was used as a setup for an entire routine on the difference in men and women.  Her routines now are about married couples, having a 38-year marriage herself.

Her statement is sort of true.  At least there is some basis for her statements on men and women sexual peak.

The male sexual peak is generally regarded as the late teens through maybe the mid-twenties.  In any kind of study like this there are too many variables.  Each person may be slightly different.

To prolong her joke, since men are marrying later and later, it’s all downhill from there.

The idea about women not hitting their peak until 35 is that, again according to studies, women do not discover the best enjoyment from them until their thirties – speaking in general.  I don’t know if they have quantified a woman’s sexual peak at all, just the enjoyment.

But then again, there are those frigid women who never enjoy sex ever.  So, if you throw them into the mix, the average age might increase even more.

But God designed sexual pleasure to be enjoyed in a matrimonial sense.

That was all part of His plan that this would be enjoyable, and in the right setting, with God’s blessing, it is indeed a wonderful thing.

Soli Deo Gloria.  Only to God be the Glory
